i don't understand how returning kickoffs and punts is so much of an injury risk. catching a ball over the middle and running into 7 man tackles seems just as dangerous.

it's football, unless you're not on the field, you can get injured. i think smith should return punts because he is so good at it.

you answered your own question there. if you are not on the field you wont get injured. if we are going to risk injury to our pro bowl wide receiver, it probably should be to use him as a wide receiver just saying.

where do these brilliant people come from? how the hell do they not have coaching jobs already?

i wasnt claiming i can coach nfl football

im just saying the obvious and put the more experienced and faster guy out there to get better yards or take it back for the score

ST sucks right now besides for r loyd

were 0-2

there needs to be changes

someone said smith running it back for a TD wouldnt matter

well, it would matter if we needed 6 to win in that moment. You're right, considering that moment in time where we needed a TD. But I think the point was having him in doesn't guarantee he'll return it for a TD... Perhaps in that one situation the 6 points would have helped, but we're talking about from that point on where the situations aren't that exact one over the course of 14 more games...

As someone else pointed out, I'd rather him get injured making a play on offense than to return a punt and get no where.. That scenario is just as likely.

Number of times over equals certainty...

Why is it more dangerous to return a punt/kickoff than to be in on offense? Mostly because you have 11 guys on the other team rushing at full speed in a congested area and bad things tend to happen... It's just more likely to happen. (especially now that the wedge has been made illegal)

Also, if Smith were to return everything for a touchdown we wouldn't be able to establish our effective and sometimes time consuming run, run, pass, punt offense. If we put a playmaker that can actually take it to the house back there everytime, we won't be able to work our bread and butter.
