setting the stage for that Godzilla vs King Kong film..

This was the best Kong movie ever!!! I sill like the original and Peter Jackson's King Kong, but this really sets up the monsters universe perfectly. Remember Godzilla is a good guy too.

I don't really see new Godzilla as a 'good guy' per se.

He's more just kind of amoral, doesn't give a s--t about us anymore than we do about ants.

(which, when you think about it, is probably the most realistic take on what a giant lizard would do)

I view Godzilla like an apex predator that "protects" humanity essentially because he thinks its his territory not necessarily because he feels any sort of kinship with people..but then again this all depends on what version of Godzilla you were raised on.

Based on you guys liking it, I will see it this week and report back. For the record, I liked the Peter Jackson one and grew up on the 70s one.

i've always liked Godzilla and view him as a good guy but recognize he wasn't at first. The remakes have been ok but give me him teaming up w mothra against that 3 headed one any day.

I saw the 76 version as a kid and loved it.  Still do.  Jessica Lange in that one smh.  As for Skull island keep watching as the cheese is thick early on.  Gets better later.

Watched it last night. Sure it's cheesy in parts but it's a monster movie so I expect that. I liked it. Different take on it and setting up the other monster movies was cool. I half think they set it in 1973 just to have an awesome soundtrack. :)

I watched this over the weekend and thought it was pretty good for what the type of movie it is.   I don't think Hiddleston's talents are used but that's how it goes in this movie.   John C Riley stole the show as always and I loved his little mini-story in the whole thing.    Thinking Brie may do pretty well as Ms. Marvel too.

Reilly was great in this one good call.  "Thats the big one". He had me laughing out loud a few times.
