Colin Cowherd: Cam lacks work ethic to become a superstar

I'm not a member of the team so I can't speak to Cam's work ethic or film study but a couple things I do find incredibly odd are the fact Cam has never made protection calls since he has been in the league, it's always been Kalil that does it and I can't think of a single other qb who doesn't make protection calls who isn't a rookie. And two the comment Cam made in the past about always having to have his play call corrected in the huddle, if you heard that from Matt Ryan or Winston or anyone else this fanbase would be going on and on about that quarterback being a moron and yet people here just want to act like it's a joke. Well it is a joke but not the funny kind.

I wholeheartedly believe Cams natural talent is his biggest curse, it's hard to learn how to properly work for poo when you can just show up and be 100x more talented than everyone else(it's the Randy Moss syndrome, dude never real mastered route running and is still second all time in receiving but if he had Jerry Rice's work ethic....dear god think what he could have accomplished).

I won't say anything bad about Mariota.

Seems like a helluva good dude and he's doing well.

Good for him that he hasn't been designated the sacrificial target of the NFL, the NFL media, fans of all other NFL teams, and shitty cowardly Panther "fans".

And Tennessee has done a damn good job of putting a great offensive talent around him in just 2 years. Marriotta can't hold cams jock strap.

stopped listening to cowherd years ago because he's basically a sports radio shock jock.  now he's very good, but I dont want to listen to people who just spew stuff they dont even believe in for ratings.

Better sports talk radio:

The Dan Patrick show

Mike and Mike

and its not close.

Don't play the race card. Guys like The Golden Calf of Bristol and Manziel are white and both were polarizing college players just like Cam. Russell Wilson isn't white and he doesn't get criticized like Cam does. Its because Wilson is mature and is a professional. Cam likes to dab, show boat, and pout when his team is losing

You know this BS needs to stop. Especially since we just went through an entire election where a candidate insulted nearly every minority group and got himself elected president.

Wilson IS criticized at every turn. He is criticized on this very board at every turn. Manziel...had to repeatedly, and repeatedly, and repeatedly, and repeatedly F up before the media finally gave up on him. If Wilson, or Cam, or Winston, or Kaepernick, or Taylor did 1/10 the stuff Manziel did IN COLLEGE, they would have NEVER been drafted.

For God sake, you had ESPN doing specials defending Manziel for taking money in college while a year later making up stories about Winston doing the same thing and saying how that should mean an end to his career.

Stop the BS. It is one thing to benefit from the privilege...stop trying to act like none exists.

Wilson plays for a team that consistently wins...nothing more

if his team lost the media would start addressing what a weirdo he is (even some die hard fan Seahawks admit he probably is the most likely NFL candidate to start some weird cult one day).  Dude is odd about is fake as it gets in today's world.  But Hawks have done nothing but win so media likes him....for now.  They would start question if he was the right type guy to lead a team as people would just see right past his fake bull.

Winning and losing....the media creates from there

Thank you for proving my point.

The coaching staff and the General Mansger do

Newton no favors

put cam behind Dallas offensive line, see what happens

give Newton a decent offense to run see what happens   Follow NE with a decent two tight end system

give Newton  a true qb coach who can teach him at the Pro level

give him a pr and marketing team that does what it is supposed to do

Does he need to get better yes

but the true stories of the panthers

1  failure  to upgrade the personnel offensive line to a pro standard

2 failure to upgrade the offense to a true standard

3 failure to upgrade the coaching staff

in the past Newton's athleticism could make up for these deficiencies  no more  NFL film has caught up to this offense end of story

did the GM and coaching staff hear  the offense getting booed Thursday night  get ready for more

as early as this team is drafting, gettleman's happy ass best be drafting a left tackle  then right tackle and a center in the first 3 rds and if he doesnt, if I was Newton, I would be saying 'trade me'

Cam is a superstar most of the time, but when things go bad he does snowball on the field. We all know it, and we all have seen it. It is his one weakness, and defenses do their best to expose it.

His form falls apart. He loses track of his reads. He makes terrible decisions. Yes, this does happen, but he is absolutely great when he is on top of his game and laser focused.

I do believe the coaches should put him in situations he thrives at during a game. He needs 15 seconds to study the defense. He has trouble and feels rushed when he has 5 seconds or less when he gets the offense to the line. He is better when making adjustments at the line and using the no huddle.

He does get greedy. He rarely uses his check down when it is wide open for a long ball forced into coverage. Thankfully, his arm is the strongest in the NFL. Like everything, that will fade in time.

I do not see Cam doing well after he hits 30 and the body starts to go. If he is not a cerebral QB with polished mechanics within the next 3 to 5 seasons, then the Cam Newton window will close.

Windows are real people. Anyone who says otherwise is lying to you.

Enjoy him while you can. I wish the team built around him more instead of wasting time to save some money for the future of the team without Cam and Luke.

Sounds like Michael Vick

I'd rather have my quarterback trash talk players on the field than sulk on the sidelines with a towel on his head. I know Cam is a more talented player than Ryan. But Ryan is definitely more mature and you can't deny that

Did I just wake up in 2012? Not a relevant narrative anymore as "the towel" is disproven to anyone who has actually watched Cam play at any point from Auburn to now.

I don't think Cam has a work ethic problem. He puts so much time into his work and goes above and beyond other players. That being said I'm sure there have been other QBs who did more film study and more mechanics practice than Cam, like Peyton and probably some others. If he did that on Peyton's level, I can't even imagine where he'd be. Cam doesn't really need to go way above and beyond like the very few do because of his natural gifts (he can make perfect throws without any mechanics, pretty much just using his arm strength) but it would help to make him even better than he is.

Because you're at practice and you're at his house so you know huh
