So...Is Cam going to run any?

Right now we are very 1 dimensional as an Offense. Our O line is not going to give running lanes or protect the QB. Why not run some more read options and let Cam take a few. When Cam gives the defense the threat of actually running, that opens up other plays. We have to do something to quit getting everyone stacked in the box against us.

We need to keep Cam as healthy as possible for the long term, not this wasted season.

Also, we need to get an OC that can call normal plays, not rely on Cam's size and athletic ability so much.

What I'm trying to say is, it's time to phase out the read option, not rely on it more heavily.

The fact we get inside the 5 and Cam is no longer running speaks volumes about the impact the NFL allowing teams to tee off on Cam has had.

Yes, he has been at risk as a pocket passer but the league is getting what they want out of roughing Cam up.  Carolina is now being overly cautious with him now (which IMO puts him more at risk)

We could run a few screens and a couple of quick slants to slow up the rush, but Shula has not gotten that far in the Offensive play calling for dummies book yet.

That isn't really how the read option works.  The QB is in reality a blocker not a runner.  He only keeps if defense doesn't account for him.  And teams are going to key in on Cam.

We are already running a lot of read option.  Just because Cam isn't running as much doesn't mean we aren't running it.

Plus if Online doesn't block their assignments you are going to go backwards.

i think you're spot on. the league is allowing people to beat the poo out of cam so it's changing what we call in goal line situations

People flip out when he takes a sack, people flip out when he throws a pick, people flip out when he doesn't run, all because his OL collapses within a millisecond.

Threads like this show, whether intentional or not, fans have begun to take the fact that Newton is such a big QB for granted.

The struggles offensively that we are witnessing did not just change overnight. We knew about our deficiencies after SB50, and we damn sure knew about them after our season opener. But we had sat on our hands, so by that point it was too late. You can say Cam Newton's name until you're blue in the face, but he isn't in charge of personnel.

I'm not sure he can

as in he might be playing through injury already?

I mean Carolina 100% has changed their usage of Cam of late IMO.  NFL teams flat out don't report injuries their players intend to play through on the injury report.  We have seen that here before with guys like Steve Smith who reports after the season officially ends he played with a rib injury for 8 weeks.

There was only play last night where Cam threw it away after rolling outside....basically every year he has played he takes on a one on one runner on the outside.
