A lot of people want to blame specific players for the losses and true some have hurt us more than others (Boston, Remmers, etc..). The problem is that the team as a whole (coaches, players) are finding ways to lose/let other teams back in the game.  Combine that with the number of injuries we have across the board, I don't see us making a run at a winning record, much less the playoffs.  Let's be clear, it doesn't mean I want a high draft pick.  I never want us to lose another game. I just don't have faith in the depth of this team or the quality of coaching to overcome the injuries it currently has.  This long break will help but unless I see a lot of guys back at practice on Wednesday (Kalil, Oher, Johnson etc...), I can't even imagine making a run.  I don't expect to see Luke back for a few weeks.  Even if we get those players back, I only see us winning 3 more (San Diego, Atl, Tampa). 7-9.  Hope I'm wrong

That's sort of what I'm thinking too. I think we have a better chance of winning the division then the wild card. Only problem is ATL has a pretty soft schedule the rest of the way.

They could drop any divisional game and the Chiefs and Cards should beat them. Trouble is I'm not sure we can beat the Raiders or Hawks on the west coast without Luke/Kalil...

I love this team and I can say whatever I want about higher picks, but come every game day I want to win....with that said, I think the perfect scenario is finishing a strong 7-9. I wasn't a member here on opening day, but if I was I would have told you the same thing I told all my friends. This season would be based on winning in Denver. My heart sank when Gano missed the GW-FG. My heart sank even further when the Vikings defense physically whooped our ass and Mike Zimmer outcoached Ron Rivera. What really stung about that for me personally is that Zimmer was the guy I wanted here in 2011 and is now 2-0 against Coach Ron, but that's neither here nor there. Blowing the games against TB, NO, and KC also kill us.

So, a strong 7-9. Here is the cold hard facts, yes we were 15-1 last season. Yes that is a helluva feet. But we didn't catch fire and dominate until the end of the season. We won a lot of games by the skin of our teeth with grit and luck, hence the reason everyone doubted us when we were 5-0, 6-0, 7-0. But wins were wins. We were far from a perfect team though and had several weaknesses. Edge pass rushing, OT play, inconsistent power run game, a revolving door at CB#2.

A strong 7-9 gives us momentum going into next season but it will also hopefully force changes. Offensive scheme, a commitment to getting a stronger OL via FA, getting bigger and stronger on defense. The kind of changes we made from 2007 to 2008. I know the 08 season ended poorly because that was an aging team that went all in as far as trading up in the draft which I don't want to ever do again, but it was remembering who we were. At the time, we were a power run team with a stout defense line and that offseason we remembered that identity and built accordingly. Do the same this off-season. Bring in better all around OT's, draft defensive players that allow for aggressive schemes and can fix the one problem the unit has always had in terms of closing out games, etc. The future can still be bright.

BTW, I read that the Patriots are making extending Bennett a priority in addition to defensive FA's. I've been championing the idea of signing Matt Kalil since I joined the site, but screw it. I want Marcus Cannon. Dude is a monster at RT. I say this with the thought that big Daryl has experience playing LT, playing fairly well at the position against Alabama in the and we would be mistaken to not give him a look at the position.

Vikes win.

Panthers need to win out and get a lot of help. With our schedule, I don't see it. Please play for next year.

Panthers blew their chance early in the season. They really killed their chances with the Chiefs loss. This year exposed a lot, that honestly needed exposing. It means nothing if they walk in to next season the same exact way as they did this season

I don't think we beat both the Raiders and the Seahawks in back to back weeks on the road without Luke. We put ourselves in this position it's just too much of a hole to climb out of. We probably finish around 8-8 and the coaching staff will once again point to going 7-3 in the last ten games like they didn't start 1-5.

I really see us struggling with the Falcons and Chargers too
