The ramifications of Luke's injury are enormous.

I do agree that this may be a sign of things to come. The reality is that the culture of the game has to change. The bigger faster stronger mentality has to stop.

In order for the game to survive there will need to be a change to more finesse and stamina versus strength and blowing dudes up.

I always find it hypocritical when a safety lays a WR out and he gets KO'd. Then the player says he never meant to hurt him. Of course you did. Inflicting pain and intimidation is part of the game.

The NFL has to find the balance between the brutality and the excitement of the sport. Otherwise I don't think the game will last another 50 years.

We probably won't see the aftershocks of this era of football for another 20 years. When all the information about the long term effects of football trickles down to the small towns across the country, football will change. All the mothers of potential players who see these concussions take their toll will think twice before letting their son play football. When people keep seeingwhat happened to Luke last night, and will continue to happen, that will change things.

I'm not a big fan of studies when it comes to obvious things.  3 days rest is 3 days rest.   Not only health but quality of the game.  Thursday football is pure something occurring for money at the cost of player health and quality of the game.

but yeah, owners will probably want a study because it simply puts the issue on hold hopefully to go away

I don't even know what NFLPA is for to be honest.  Ask yourself this....when is the last time the president of the NFLPA thought it was important for him to be a voice publically?  Can't even recall him getting out on a soapbox for anything in some time

The NFLPA seems like more of a pacifier to keep players from complaining directly to the NFL about things more than an organization that can change anything

I believe Kuechly's concussion occurred on the play before his exit from the game.  Does anyone have the game recorded to verify this?  He made a tackle on the sideline, and stumbled a bit when he tried to get up.  I believe he tried to play through the concussion but quickly resided to the fact that he needed to leave the game.

It makes sense, it looked like it was setting in and he was having a very severe panic attack.

I think you're right. He kind of stumbles a bit when coming back in bounds. I thought he had injured a knee on that play initially, but now it looks like he wasn't all there.

Play before I am pretty sure a Saint ran onto on his foot/ankle as he was walking back from out of bounds

i think he got it out the hit.  Front chin by the Saint and then TD instant on the back side.  Wasn't the most brutal looking but the TD shot came right when his head was whipping back

On the play before being hurt, Luke was trailing the play. He never made contact with anyone.

He kinda sidestepped the pile, planted his leg to stop, and his foot slid out from under him. He almost immediately started shaking his leg. There was no contact, and he wasn't stepped on. He slipped, and wrenched his leg.

When he came in to make the tackle on HIghtower, he went to plant that leg, and it buckled. When the leg buckled, he lost his leverage and dropped down into the tackle instead of driving into it. He took the hit, instead of making the hit.

It was just a freak set of circumstances that led to him being hurt.
