Offense Doesn't Score In 2nd Half Again

Like in baseball, we need a closer OC to come in and relieve Shula and McD of their duties.

Or they could just not play scared and conservative when we have what SHOULD be an insurmountable lead. They've mastered the art of shutting it down way too early.

If you were at the game you would have noticed several things. There were a number of times when there were wide open receivers and Cam didnt even look their way. The pressure he gets from repeated blitzes has turned him into a one read and throw it guy again. There were a few drops........on several drives. In the fourth quarter I saw three drops on one series alone.
I also saw plays were we called a great play but the execution was awful. KB for example whiffed on several blocks when we called screens or used a bunch formation. Truth is given the crap OLine, injuries and poor execution, one of the best things right now is that Shula is doing a pretty good job polishing this offensive turd to make us look better than we are. We have had a lead at halftime in 9 out of 10 games. And the tendency to let teams back in the game isn't a new thing. Rivera wants a conservative game with a lead. The difference is the defense hadn't created turnovers to stop comebacks. We scored 23 points when we were using our third string center, Cam was having a poor night, receivers were inconsistent at best, repeated PI calls were ignored and we had no running game. Even then we left at least 10 points on the board with repeated sacks taking us out of field goal or scoring position.
If you are blaming Shula you are seeing the game but have no idea what is really happening.

Dumbest ish I've read on this board. I can't believe you are defending Shula. If Cam is getting blitzed every time it's a passing down then there should be a hot route right? That's on Shula.

The only inkling of a running game we have is when Cam is involved so we don't run Cam until it's 3rd and 14 in the 4rth qtr. That's on Shula.

1st and goal at the 1 and you don't even attempt to run the QB that has scored 40 plus TD's running the football. That's on Shula.

I sat watching the game last night and I could tell on 75% of our plays whether it was a run or a pass just based on formation. What do you think a real defensive coordinator can see? That's on Shula.

Tolbert still getting carries for none yards. That's on Shula.

I could go on and on but I'm through with Shula. A good OC can scheme around personnel limitations or make adjustments based on what is happening in the game. Can you honestly say Shula has ever done this? He is mediocre at best and the deficiency in our line has exposed him this year for what he is.

We had a big lead against KC in the 2nd half....Shula was NOT conservative.   He went pass heavy in the 2nd half.  4 of 5 drives leaned toward the pass.

He went conservative up vs NO (which was a weak front) and the OL still couldn't run the ball at all.

We could fire Shula today and we wouldn't be a better team.   Now if we had legit talent up front...then the difference between Shula vs a great O mind could be debated.  All Shula has done of late is scheme to make up for a bad OL for two years now.

Goes back to a front office failing.  If your head coach is Ron who wants to play great D and have a conservative run game......you give them the talent to do what you employ them to do.  Gettlemen hasn't this year.  A bad OL and a patchwork defensive unit isn't setting up your coach/team for success.

Lmao, it's not Shula's fault...

I'm just amazed that some in here are still defending him after those last 3 drives. Run Stewart up the middle, run Stewart up the middle, run Cam up the middle...

Genius! Nevermind that we're gonna give the ball back quickly after surrendering points on prior drive.

I mean, seriously, what the hell was Shula thinking with that ultraconservative bullshit? It was almost surreal. I don't know how anyone can justify those last couple of series, regardless of the personnel. We can do better than that! It was just chicken poo! It wasn't befitting of the defending conference champion, but, more importantly, an offense that was number one in the league the prior season. It was a fiasco that may as well have been happening in slow motion.

Last season how many games did we have a backup LT, backup RT and a 3rd string C attempting to set up the offense?

The OL is 100% crippling us.

2014. Not exactly those positions but the low point was against the Eagles when we had three out of five Uglies out. Predictably, Cam got sacked 8 or 9 times that night.

Can't say OL is 100% the problem but when you have that many injuries there, it's like trotting out a second string unit out there. There's no consistency and the effects are cumulative across the entire team. We certainly need to upgrade during the offseason but more importantly, we need whoever we trot out there to stay out there.

ite let's go ahead and bust some myths, what adjustments can be made on offesne?

we are already in max protection and still can't pass block, we try running the ball to get out of 3rd and long situations where we know we're doomed and the o line can't even get us into 3rd and 8. try "adjusting" by passing to get us out of third and long situations and then come the drops. Our "fb" can't even gain a yard on the 2 carries he gets a game, Thank the saints for not blitzing on that 3rd and long or we might not even be talking about a win today. Now i'll be fair some of you have legitimate gripes but i'm not sure shula is to blame, and the rest of you are walking hypocrites, as i've seen you complain about going conservative but also complain about not going conservative which leads to a (3 and out, or TO).

for the millionth time it's personnel and execution, which arguably work hand in hand, if our o line already sucks imagine how bad it is when injuries occur? We have got to find a major upgrade in the wr department or get some o line help as soon as possible, that means this off-season needs to be dedicated to fixing either one or both those issue.

Its like we don't even plan for the second half.. or shula says we will see how the game is when we get there.

What does Shula do during halftime? Id love to know anything about what he does.. We see him in the box looking down. is he speaking directly to Cam? Or to Ken and then to Cam? what is the chain of command during live game?

We were getting to the line slow, sometimes on purpose but sometimes not

We seem to perform much better in hurry up mode. Plays get in quicker, we play up tempo which negates defensive substitutions. I know Rivera wants to run out the clock starting in the 2nd quarter, but we do not function well that way. Up tempo, screens, slants and sweeps/end arounds would all help our O line.
