One of my greatest fears is being realized..  He's got money, great people around him, and a huge future ahead..  if I were him I'd retire.  Its a brutal game and most people arent built like Ray Lewis and London Fletcher.  Nothing this sport offers is worth the effects.  This isn't being a war hero or a martyr for the people you love.  This is fuging entertainment

Well said, MVP.  He loves it so much, I doubt he does of his own will.  My concern is that he plays against Dr. Orders.  I would quit if I were him.

I don't think so.  I think he's a smart cat and he knows the game is not worth it.  Maybe he tries again next year but he wont be the animal he has always been.   Now 10-20 years ago he probably plays like Morgan did but there is too much evidence now.  You'd have to be stupid to keep playing like a wrecking ball.

NFL Network refuse to show Luke's reaction out of respect for him this morning....I thought that was pretty classy of them.

Now get rid of Thursday night games and actually enforce a safety protocol for everyone and not just who is deemed "stars".

Good.

I wish NBC would have used better judgment with the close-up of Luke struggling to breath.

It is OK to be a fan, it is even OK to pretend to understand the game, but when I read something this void of understanding, I strongly suggest the person typing it find a new past time.  My concern is this:  His career can be over---I doubt it, but it is a career-ending injury.  I played in college and had 3 concussions--back in the day, you got the smelling sauce and put back in the game, and it was funny when you went to the wrong huddle or sideline.  I never saw someone who was having trouble breathing due to a head injury before.  Pray it was NOT a severe concussion, but do not be surprised if his season is over.

I'm sorry

Watching the vids again in slow mo, looks like this could be one of those fairly rare coup/contrecoup injuries, especially given the nature of the impacts. Any REAL docs with a near or trauma background around here have a take on this? I doubt we'll ever get the details, but man, I've seen some absolutely awful stuff, but those closeups of him immediately afterwards really shook me to the core. I can't imagine what his parents went through seeing that.

I told my coworker the same thing.

They don't care about Cam or whoever the league deems not fit.

The concussion protocol should have been years ago.

The league needs to review safety gear because with this 'increased/improved' safety gear over the years, the more violent the sport has become. Football pushes human bodies to the limit. NFL has become NASCAR waiting for the wreck that boost ratings.

I have stopped caring about college sports and about done with professional.

College football/basketball have the whole "everybody gets rich off players making nothing" thing which wears on me more and more in the same way.  Not really sure when it all started, it has been a slow process, but it is very evident now.

We know he struggled to come back last year missing a month with a concussion. That's prior history. Oher and Cam had never had concussions I their NFL careers that I'm aware of, certainly not missing a month of football a year ago with a concussion.

But yeah, you're right, we should try to rush him back out there and potentially risk the career of our HOF MLB so that we can potentially win a few meaningless games to knock us further down the draft board.

I want to see Luke play a lot morefootball, not go out like Dan Morgan.
