Honestly, it usually is.  All these recent 1st round bust OTs has a trickle down effect. It seems like it's getting harder and harder to find legit starting caliber OTs, so they very rarely hit free agency. I think a lot of it has to do with the passing game becoming a bigger and bigger part of the game in general.  All those dropbacks puts a lot of pressure on the OTs and most OTs come out of college more NFL ready in terms of the run game than they are in terms pass protection. The exotic blitz schemes and downright physical freaks at DE and OLB that these guys face at the NFL level is tough to process for them in pass protection. There's a reason why offensive linemen love running the football.  They're the ones dictating the action in the run game. It doesn't matter what the defense is doing, they're the ones on the attack. Pass protection is tougher and requires more athleticism because you're on the defense.  You're largely reacting to what the defense and defender is doing to try to get to your QB. That's a lot tougher of a job.

That's why I love the raiders line this year. A bunch of maulers with attitude. I miss the days where you line up and punch each other in the mouth in the trenches but with the blitz schemes and pass rushers like Von Miller coupled with college spread offenses those days are probably long gone.

Matt Kalil, Ryan, Schraeder, or Alenjandro Villanueva would upgrade Remmers.

Im okay with Oher starting at LT.

Daryl Williams is playing pretty well at RT.

Remmers just have to go.

We can't have Villanueva on the team. There can be only one Alejandro discussed on the huddle even though his fat vegan ass was blocked. It's just the way it has to be.

James and Humphries were over drafted; especially James.

Both of which we likely would have drafted had they been available according to Gettleman himself. It's less clear about James but it was pretty strongly implied by DG that he wanted him. Humphries we would have 100% taken had the Cards not done so the pick before us.

I'd sign Matt Kalil. Yea, his rookie year was his best so far, but he would be an upgrade over Oher at LT and working with his brother might help bring out the best. And I'm fine with getting rid of Oher by the way, just as I am high on Darryl Williams and I just think he needs to play. As far as the draft goes, two guys I like that we could have between the 2nd-4th round are Chad Wheeler and Taylor Moton.

I still think the situation we need to upgrade the most is DE. The good news about the secondary is it's a strong FA class.

Seems like everything goes in cycles. Guys like Von Miller are true freaks.  You don't see very many guys like him who can both rush the passer like he can AND hold up in the running game. Teams like Dallas and Oakland (and honestly us last year) might be setting a trend. You can still be very successful in the NFL running the football and it takes a lot of pressure off of your OL in the passing game with play action. I think we're already seeing that trend play itself out.

After back to back seasons of no RBs going in the 1st round, we saw 2 go in the top 15 in 2015 and one go in the top 5 this year.

Fournette will go high this year and there could be two or even three other potential 1st round RBs in this draft.  This looks to be one of the best RB classes in years. Fournette is the cream of the crop, but guys like Dalvin Cook, Nick Chubb, Christian McCaffrey, etc. will get a lot of attention.  I'll be surprised if at least one of those three aren't a 1st rounder as well.

I'm not sure what makes anyone think that Kalil would be an automatic upgrade over Oher. I'd love to bring him in and give him an opportunity to work with his brother and salvage his career, but I would spend much money to do it. Not much at all. Something like Oher's initial "prove it" contract with us seems about right.

UCLA's Conor McDermott is a guy I like a lot. He was getting quite a bit of hype before the season, but I think he's kind of fell off the map here lately with UCLA underperforming. In the one game I watched of theirs (the Colorado game), the dude looked damn near flawless. Now, maybe he's sucked ass in every other game, I don't know, but he's a guy I'm going to pay attention to as we near the draft.

And that would be fair and what I'd do.....I'd actually even be willing to throw breadcrumbs at Luke Joeckel and see if we could get anything out of a guy that was supposed to be elite. Notice, I said breadcrumbs money wise.

Here are the only options I see that would be any sort of upgrade at tackle for us that are not old as dirt too.

LT Matt Kahlil Age : 27 $4,942,000

LT Marcus Cannon Age: 28 $4,500,000

LT Riley Reiff Age: 27 2016 CAP : $1,998,425

Projected Tackles Position Rankings:

Mike McGlinchey, Notre Dame

Cam Robinson, Alabama

Conor McDermott, UCLA

Tyrell Crosby, Oregon

Zach Banner, USC

As of late drafting tackles in the 1st hasn't necessarily panned out.  Eric Fisher, Luke Joeckel, DJ Humphries.

My opinion is you draft the best CB, DE, RB in that order pick up a 2nd or 3rd round Tackle Like Tyrell Crosy or Zach Banner and sign yet 1 more year of a Veteran Band-Aid (not Wal-Mart FA signing) and let this year draft pick learn the offense.

I am seeing a lot of Mock Drafts (I know its stil early) but us choosing CB's or DE's at current pick #6 (which won't be the case come draft day)

The raiders have actually been playing with six offensive lineman a lot this year. I'm not sure what we haven't gone that route. It gives Carr a ton of time to find receivers (and the three he has in cooper, Crabtree and Roberts are far superior to Benjamin Funchess and Ginn). It also has been a huge help for Murray running behind those six.
