Vick to play in first regular season game this Sunday....

Johnny Rockets

Vick is a hero. There are plenty of people out there who have commited crimes in the past and are now felons because of it. Many of these people have learned from their mistakes and want to do good and want to be a positive force but because of their records face obstacles (in finding employment, providing for their families, etc). Mike Vick represents those people and is proof that you can change for the better if given a 2nd chance.

sorry....didn't realize he already proved that he changed. My bad.

I also just assumed he would be a bit more humble than referring to himself as "Superman" before ever playing in a meaningful game. My bad again.

I am not anti-Vick, just don't he deserves a hero's welcome. Wait and see is my attitude towards it.

Vick certainly has the chance to be a positive example with the rest of his life, but he's no hero... not even close.

They just ran a story on him on Real Sports the other night about how he's been putting in countless hours speaking around the country to inner city kids about dog fighting. And when he does, he's not telling the camera crews to follow him, he's doing it on his own accord. Might be why so many people think he hasnt done anything and still needs to prove he's learned from his mistakes. In fact, he was doing it before he was even sentenced to jail to show he wants to help the situation. As far as him calling himself "Superman", the guy believes in his talent and his ability. The second he stops doing that, is the second he no longer has what it takes to be a QB in this league. He said playing this weekend is a dream come true and one he thought long and hard about while he was locked up.

I am well aware of what he has done in the city of Philadelphia since coming there. I follow Philly news daily and don't need an HBO update to fill me in but thanks. If you are trying to convince me that he is "a hero" for a couple of months of community service that is not going to happen.

I don't hate the guy and will cheer for him when he helps te Eagles win games. It really don't matter to me. Hope he does well in all aspects of the NFL and life, but I will leave putting him on a pedestal to others .

Johnny Rockets doesnt view Mike Vick as a hero. Guess what, thousands upon thousands of people do (I guess thats why they will be giving him a standing O on Sunday). Its just a difference of opinion. There's people on this board who see General Robert E Lee as a hero. I dont. Doesnt make them wrong and I dont lose sleep over it at night. And nowhere did I say Vick was a hero for doing community service. I said he represents people who are felons trying to turn their lives around, and to those people he is a hero.

Johnny Rockets = Right

Thousands upon thousands of people = Wrong

Vick is not a hero. Vick is someone who committed crimes and paid his debt to society and is very fortunate to have another chance in the NFL.

That said, I can see your point about Vick being a role model for prisoners.

But I certainly wouldn't call him a hero.

Back on topic...it will be very interesting to see how Vick is used in the wildcat formation.
