PFF: Trai Turner has regressed immensely. Newton isn't good under pressure (duh).

Top offensive grades:

QB Cam Newton, 79.3

C Gino Gradkowski, 79.3

RT Daryl Williams, 78.7

LT Mike Remmers, 77.0

WR Devin Funchess, 70.9

Rebuilt line still a work in progress

Much of Carolina’s success in 2015 was built on the physicality of its front five. Injuries have disrupted the group’s continuity and offensive production has suffered as a result. Mike Remmers still appears psychologically scarred from his Super Bowl beatdown at the hands of Denver’s Von Miller, and the move from right to left tackle hasn’t made things any easier. He has allowed 34 combined pressures this season, after giving up 56 in the entirety of 2015. Trai Turner also appears to have regressed, highlighted by an ugly beat in pass protection which saw him barely touch Chris Jones on his way to the quarterback. In only his sixth start, RT Daryl Williams experienced predictable hiccups in pass protection.

Solid day against mundane offense for Panthers’ defense

It wasn’t an out-of-this-world performance from the Carolina defense against Kansas City, but the Panthers held their own and provided their offense with opportunities to put this game away. Linebacker Luke Kuechly once again led the defense, tallying a team-high six stops on the day (a stop is a solo tackle which constitutes as a loss for the offense, given the situation), while also getting a hit on Chiefs QB Alex Smith and playing excellent defense in pass coverage. Rookie corner James Bradberry limited the receiver opposite him to just three catches on six targets for a total of 33 yards. Robert McClain allowed all three balls thrown into his coverage to be caught, but Chiefs receivers gained just 10 yards total on those three catches. Mario  Addison led the team with six total QB pressures, with one of those being a sack.

No defensive grades for us for some odd reason.

I don't believe those PFF grades for a second. Gradkowski played terrible yesterday. On that pick Cam threw he literally didn't block a soul.

He is also the reason Trai has taken a nose dive. Give Cam another real tackle and watch the man work .

    • Canales was brought in to fix Bryce. That was how he sold himself. He failed.  the panthers need a new qb, someone to coach him, and someone to build a defensive staff.  Canales has failed at developing a new qb. His big draft project XL is trending towards bust. His entire nfl resume before the panthers was one season as offensive coordinator on a stacked Bucs team, and being on the offensive staff when a 31 year old Geno smith finally put it all together. And he didn’t even pick his offensive coordinator. Assuming evero is gone, who’s he got in that phone to call? What low lvl porn addict evangelical from the bucs is ready to be Peter principled? There is nothing in his coaching history or his current performance that indicates he’s the person to move this team forward. Every other team knew this last cycle (panthers were only interview) and nothing has happened to change that perception   all people like you have is “well you can’t do it again it’s too soon but <random interval of time> will be different.  just pull off the bandage. There’s no reason to let this guy draft “his guy” except people wanting an excuse not to fire him after 2025.
    • Both Reich and Canales were saddled with trying to build and establish a viable scoring offense around Bryce Young. The best the offense looked this season and last season was with Andy Dalton who is also terrible but still better than Bryce Young. Which should be all anyone needs to know but still somehow there are weirdos here salivating over a ceiling of maybe on a really good day the 25th best QB in the league. We've already canned one entire staff over our first overall pick. You can fire everyone again to satisfy your need for vengeance and quickly come to the realization that your next hire will absolutely unequivocally be a downgrade yes man or you can blow up this QB room and then assess. If no progress next season then you can make changes and justifiably so.
    • Surprised this is the only post with this take.  This is like the Rhule kiss of death lol.
