Make The Panthers Great Again 2017 - 3 things that need to change

I know... "The season isn't over yet" blah blah blah... Miracles can happen. Regardless, I think we all agree things need to change going into 2017.

Here are mine, what are yours?

1) Fire Shula, find a new OC. This is a no brainer to me. I've been saying it since 2014. He has SO many weapons to work with, yet fails to execute during all 4 quarters on a consistent basis. Cam, Stew, Olsen, Benji, Funchess, Ginn.... We should DOMINATE from an offensive standpoint, yet he never fails to disappoint... The slow developing plays, predictable back-2-back runs up the middle, screen passes that never work, delay of games from not making up his fugging mind, putting our franchise QB in dangerous situations, pitiful time management, etc etc... It's getting beyond old. It's time for a change.

2) PROTECT CAM. It's been 6 years. SIX!!!! If this man wasn't an absolute beast of a human being, he would probably be out of the league by now. We all know the stats regarding his hits in the pocket compared to the other NFL QB's. And it's not even close. Are some of the hits illegal? Yes. Can he do a better job of avoiding these hits? Maybe some. But, it's obvious we have completely negated to protect the most valuable weapon this franchise has ever had. It's truly sickening watching these other games and seeing the time these QB's have in the pocket. We're wasting away the prime years of Cam Newton, and in doing so, shortening the # of years he can last in the NFL by failing to protect him. Not a good combination.

3) Spend some $$$ for once in free agency. One high draft pick ain't gonna cut it! I'm not saying to go after and overpay for all the top FA's on the market, but I'm sick and tired of this "we'll find all the diamonds in the rough" mentality. These guys have been cut/let go from several teams for a reason. THESE ARE NOT THE GUYS THAT WILL LEAD US TO A SUPER BOWL. Granted, we do have a strong core of players and IMO only need a few pieces to make us SB contenders again, but PLEASE sign some guys that can contribute to this team for more than a year. There's nothing wrong with signing a couple of vets whom are on the fringe of retirement. But, we have the cap space and WE NEED TO ACTUALLY USE IT ON PROVEN TALENT!!!!!

Only thing we need is a vet safety, a draft day 1 starter DE, RB of the future with this deep RB class, and then pick and plug. Maybe grab a LT in the 3rd round that looks promising. But we should be fine. Don't be surprised if we actually win out in this crappy division, and this horrid NFC year.

Offense needs a true #1 WR and #2 TE along with an actual blocking FB. Interior line is fine, but we need better tackle depth. Turner also needs to be OC.

CB is where I want us to be active in FA. We need a solid vet to step in and be an outside CB. DE we can address in the draft.

Delusional. While Dave Gettleman drafts a pro bowl RG in Trai, has a promising RT in Daryl, a SOLID LG UDFA in Norwell, and a servicable Oher at LT, we have a top 5 oline.

When healthy, we have a good OLine. You guys are beyond hilarious.

"Promising" and "Serviceable" are unacceptable. Cam deserves the best guys protecting him. Period.

Should I mention Daryl Williams has been consistently the best graded RT from our oline lately?

Not to mention he was rated #1 RT during the 2015 preseason.

Oher is a starter for many other teams. He could be upgraded, but it's not that big an issue.

Or should we roll Nate Chandler and Byron Bell?

Acting like DG never did anything for the oline is about as delusional as it gets.

Oher should be replaced but I agree when healthy the line is pretty solid.

Not arguing with you. I never said DG didn't do ANYTHING about it. But when Cam continues to get hit more than any other QB in the pocket, something isn't working. We've had opportunities to upgrade at the most important position on the offensive line (LT) and have failed to do so. Patch working at that position isn't acceptable. Like I said, we have a great core of guys which does include the OL. Norwell, Trai, and more than likely Williams. Yet, Cam is still getting murdered in the pocket. What is your solution to that? If we ever do spend some money, protecting Cam better needs to be a priority.

So is not looking realistically at where this team is now and where they will be next year.

    • his height, size and arm will forever cause problems and limitations...that is what it is.  I think to a degree, the law of averages is just coming into play a bit with him.  So as he plays more and more, you just flat out get the decent days mixed in too.  Which is just going to happen.
    • Good point. He's definitely better in 10-15 yards. I think that's his biggest improvement. But he wasn't 3-10 +15, he was 3-7, with at least one drop (minor but still). And with multiple passes at 14 yards completed. This passing chart doesn't look like at By one, lol. He threw more "deep" passes than Mahomes (NOT comparing him to Mahomes in a skill way lol), or at least more beyind 10 yards.
    • Karlaftis and Danna have been pretty inconsistent so teams have been doubling Jones and able to contain their pass rush.   But the good thing is that yesterday, we schemed well against Steve Spags Defense, Canales married the surrounding personnel with his QB through play designs within his comfort zone and was able to get downfield at will.  He was able to execute higher difficulty throws and look a lot more comfortable.  It tells me that Canales has a good system in mind, and had an edge gameplanning wise against Spagnuolo - which is nice to see.  It's a bit to see-saw at times with either going way too pass heavy or way too run heavy, but I think he's finding out what works.  It takes time to have it come together, and sure, I could see regression happen against a better front-7, but this was good for the entire system gelling.
