Rebuilding Mode

Okay so let's say doomsday scenario this offseason, we see Ryan Kalil, Thomas Davis, Charles Johnson, and Michael Oher retire. Kawaan Short signs elsewhere in free agency, and Jonathan Stewart is a cap casualty. The Panthers, in particular the trenches, go into rebuilding mode.

Vernon Butler was drafted basically to replace Short. Shaq Thompson is waiting in the wings for Davis. A likely top 10 draft pick could be used to finally shore up the LT spot. Maybe the Panthers get a talented RB in the draft (I've been watching UTs D'Onta Foreman, who I think could be there in the 2nd). The Panthers will have a ton of cap space, but will Gettleman spend it?

Big changes are a given this offseason. The old Panthers from 2011-2012 are back, and the roster needs an overhaul. But there are some talented players waiting in the wings and pretty much everyone not named Cam or Luke with their job on the line next season.

Rebuilding mode, here we come...

A rebuild after a 15-1 season. I honestly don't think that's the case, but it damn sure comes off as one.

Gettleman rebuilt the cornerback position after a 15-1 season. Two seasons later it'll many more positions. The entire roster outside of Cam and Luke will see changes. At some point they need a replacement for Olsen too. He probably won't retire this offseason, but it's coming sooner than later too. The future isn't as bright as many of us thought and that's heartbreaking after the success of last season.

Rebuilding the CB position was not by design. The Norman situation caused it.

Not sure you really understand how this all works. Some players will be fighting for spots next year. But most of the turnover will be at the bottom of the roster.

On Offense, Cam, KB, Funchess, Norwell, Turner, Kalil, Williams, and Olsen are probably safe.

On Defense,  Stah, KK, Butler, Ealy, TD, Luke, Shaq, Bradberry, Coleman, and probably Worley, and Boston are probably safe.

At the top of the roster there is room for improvement, but it is really limited. The bottom of the roster however is never safe.

This team won't have a TRUE rebuild mode till Richardson hands the team off to someone else (one way or another).  I hate to say it.  When you keep hiring middle of the road coaches with no killer instinct you're going to have off years.  That's our story.

Only we rebuild after going 15 and 1 and a super bowl appearance.  All we needed to do was get a better ss , resign norman and add some more talent on the dline and we would be dominant like last year but gettlemans head got in the way and i dont want to hear it. No excuse for why we needed to strip our secoundary after it was one of the bests last year

    • And we just started playing competitive football. Now look we beat a decent team. We can celebrate winning, it will be ok…
    • It doesn't matter if you give him a new WR1. To do it you have to devoted MORE resources to him. At some point you have to stop or there's nothing left for the defense. Our defense looks like scrubs because that's what we've got because we've spent a shitload on offense. He got a 1st round WR and a shiny new RB in round 2.  Bryce had a couple of good games but we are not competing against the Chiefs or Eagles. They're headed to the playoffs with realistic SB aspirations and we're headed to a top 10 pick. Those teams have competed for an entire season where the Panthers have ummm... They've almost gotten to as many wins as Matt Rhule in a season.  Would you rather have Bryce or Lamar? Because we've spent more on Bryce and to build around him than what it would have cost to trade for Lamar.  This team can't get better when it's having to devote everything to making it possible for our #1 QB god to play average NFL football.  I may end up being wrong and Bryce may become the GOAT. But one thing you won't see me doing is flip flopping on where I stand every couple of weeks because he has good or bad games. I think Bryce is our version of Daniel Jones and I think we're going to fug ourselves pretending he's Pat Mahomes.
