Why do we even bother?

This has been me since the Super Bowl.

When you step back and look at the NFL from the outside, you realize things.  For one, you're watching grown men hurt each other in a modern gladiator sport.   You're watching fans act like they own the players and living vicariously through them.   More than other sports it feels like.   You're watching the NFL blatantly push games toward one direction or the other to fit their story-lines and directives (takes only one ref for this).   It's very easy to see.   The refs are terrible and get worse every year with no repercussions, but why?    Makes you wonder.   I'll admit, I feel a bit guilty watching these guys punish each other into brain injuries (yeah, they make millions, whatever, I still feel a kind of guilty).

Sports general, it's a way for the masses to simmer down and fall in line and be entertained.  Just like the Gladiators provided Rome.
