Time For a Complete Coaching Change?

My main objection to replacing the winningest coach in Panther history is; Who do you get to replace him. Besides all the obvious questions, you have to figure out if you want an Offensive, or Defensive minded coach? How many guys out there can you truly trust? Do you get a retread coach? Or do you grab an up and comer?

Ron has his flaws. But he wins more often than he loses, and the players seem to adore him. He and Gman have the same philosophy, and talk football all the time. Will the next coach have that same relationship?

Make the wrong choice, and Ron looks good. Make the right choice, and Ron is a foot-note. But don't kid yourself. The decision is a massive undertaking. One, I am just not sure we need to make at this point.

I will say that even I am anxious to see how this off-season works out. Cuz next year could be a make or break year for not only Ron, but Gman as well. Although, I don't see Gman as being in any danger. He has a few years yet to prove his plan works.

And yes, I do realize I am in the minority right now. But hey, I live surrounded by a slew of hillbilly in laws. So I am used to being the minority.

At this juncture, I'm not even considering a reset, not a year removed from a SB run. Grant you, what we have right now isn't looking that great but as others have brought up before, you have to consider replacements.

Furthermore, also consider that this type of conversation happens within every fanbase at some point in time. No coaching staff is perfect. Each one has its strengths and weaknesses. A new staff may fix some problems but you'll have to deal with new ones.

Finally, I always like to bring up Bill Cowher's name because back in the old boards, he was the go-to name for John Fox's replacement. Yet Steelers fans were wanting him gone since the late 90s as did talking heads. The SB win somehow gave everyone amnesia.

I'm in no way comparing Ron to Cowher but more of saying that a sign of a bad franchise is cleaning house at the first sign of trouble. Basically, I'd rather we would be closer to the Steelers model than the Browns. As a fan, that requires patience and a season like this certainly tests that patience.

I know everyone was one once, but I still gotta say it. First time coach. The NFL is littered with them. A few get the time to grow, some need a second chance to grow, and most never get it.

I know, I know, Ron was a first timer as well. For a while there I thought he was growing, but this year is such a mess, I am not sure I want to use this one for evaluation. Ron is doing more scrambling than coaching this year.

Ron has a winning record. Do folks forget how difficult that accomplishment is? How do you fire a winning coach, one year removed from a SuperB owl?

For me, one more year is almost a must. As long as Gman fixes the holes on this team, I think Ron deserves the chance to coach them.

Frank has some College Coaching experience right? I guess that's better than nothing. Although, I am firmly behind getting an Offensive minded coach next time. Get a coach that fits your QB. Ron lucked into Cam, so in a way, he didn't quite know what to do with him. And sometimes, it looks like he still doesn't know what to do with him.

I'll admit, I don't know who is available right now. And I'm with you on the chemistry thing. One of the things Iike is Ron's relationship with the players. I think he's a good man, a good coach but how long can we ride "good"?

Next season will be a make or break for Ron, but he will get bailed out and we will magically start strong and finish good.

That last bit made me laugh and it was much needed. Thanks.

Well said. The only thing I would add is the difference in social media. Nowadays, with instant everything, fans have less patience than ever. If you don't win now, you may not get the chance to win later. Too many fingers on the "Send" button.

Some owners do listen, others just go ahead and do it how they believe it should be done. But there is no denying that Social Media has a bigger voice than ever before. And some owners will cow tow to it. Thankfully we don't have one of those.

That is one thing I like about this franchise. We don't normally do knee jerk. We are methodical, and take our time to do it the right way. JR hires people to do a job, and pretty much lets them do it. Which is why I believe that Ron will be around at least one more year. Whether Shula should be? That's another debate all together.

The Panthers only hire first time coaches, at least in part because Seifert was an expensive disaster.

Reich would have the option of hiring a two time head coach - Ken Whisenhunt, who hired him in San Diego - an an OC if Whisenhunt were willing (he's available).

That's my dream scenario, but I've got no illusions that it's likely to happen.

Yeah, the in laws are always good for a laugh. You should come around the first weekend of the month. If there isn't gun fire, the party was a dud. lol

I have no idea how I got into this. The wife is nothing like her family. Hellz, she doesn't even go to her mothers house unless she absolutely has too. Good people. Terrible drunks.

I know folks are reaching a boiling point with Ron. Losing does that to fans. If you could guarantee me we get a good coach, with a good plan, and a good staff, I'll be right there with you. I just don't think it's fair to Ron to kick him to the curb after the mess this season was.

Shula, sure, kick him to the curb. Bring in an OC that can get with the times. Let your HOF QB do what a HOF QB does. Dang, how hard it that?

With how this season has played out. Dream away. It's pretty much all we have.

I have heard some good things about Frank. So I would not be totally against him.

We have hired established coaches before. But they didn't work out either. Good coaches are so dang hard to find. Even when you find one, it takes time for you to know for sure.

Personally, all I want is an OC that can get every ounce of talent out of Cam. Now that is a dream for ya.

Shula is allergic to change and afraid to grow. That's bad business.

I thank the man upstairs I didn't marry into my ex's family and I was madly in love. We will just leave it at that LOL. Holidays we split the kid, and let's just say I try to drop off and pick up before the party is started.

Holidays? I find a chair in the corner and keep my eyes moving. If I keep my mouth shut, most times they forget I'm even there. A few years ago, while opening presents, my brother in law threw his phone at his father because he got a bottle of Jim Beam, and not Jack Daniels. lol

I have to admit throughout the years, no one has been killed. Hospital visits? Sure. Lots of band aids, and tape, but no actual deaths. lol

My family didn't believe me the first few years I talked about the in laws. Until my mother came to the wifes b-day party. Even though the party was at our house, and the in laws were on their best behavior. My mother left early, and never came back. We always went to her house, or out to dinner.

This was fun. Thanks.
