Time For a Complete Coaching Change?

First things first, we aren't firing Rivera after three NFC South titles and a SB appearance. We would have to lose out and have crowd interest tank for JR to even consider it and even then it is 99.9% likely he would return. With that aid, I've never been sold on Rivera as an in game. Great man, players love him as a man. But he is like John Fox with an extra testicle in that we go aggressive for one half and then play not to lose.

But, for fun I'll play this game. Say we fired Rivera. I'd go after Frank Reich as the new HC. Haven't really dabbled with offensive minded coaches, Reich has an obvious tie to Carolina's history, has coached on Peyton Manning led offenses, coached under an offensive mind like Whisenhunt, and has been instrumental in bringing Carson Wentz along. Young and fresh by coaching standards. And I'd pair him with the soon to be fired Gus Bradley as DC. Not that I want McDermott to go, in fact, I wish he was our HC at times. But I feel like he will get a job somewhere and that he and Rivera are a package. Plus, Bradley wouldn't be getting HC offers anytime soon and built that Seattle defense. For OC, I like James Urban. Current Bengals WR coach but, helping to polish AJ Green, Marvin Jones, Sanu, etc. Before that was the QB coach for the Eagles when Michael Vick resurrected his career in. Should have been a coordinator by now. Coached under Andy Reid and Hue Jackson, for what that's worth.

Now, going for an experienced former HC, I'd grab another Eagle, Jim Schwartz provided he brought a very talented OC with him.

Which brings me to this. Say we just fired Shula. I'm cool with Urban, obviously, or a Chad O'Shea from the Patriots, but Urban would fit our personnel better. It will never happen because of the current situation surrounding the man and our holier than thou owner(and thanks Carruth)......but I'd call up Art Briles. Yes, you can poo poo his offense as too college air raid-esque. But the man has shown the ability to adapt and flex into power running based game plans when the called for. A fresh mind, a college coach yes but only having to focus on one side of the ball. Think about it.
