Peppers is trash

Absolutely right. Last year for example, he was very active against Detroit and Oakland. A couple of pretty tough football teams. 5 out of 14.5 (34%) sacks on teams that combined for a strong 3 or 4 wins. Give that man a million a game.

like when umenyiora got 6 of his 13 sacks against winston justice for 07. Osi sucks too.

I'm tired of hearing all this "we should have taken Freeney crap" or "we should have taken Forte instead of Stewart". Peppers has been dominant. So has Freeney.

Freeney's Career Stats:

105 games played

224 tackles

72.5 sacks

12 passes defensed

0 interceptions

Peppers Career Stats:

108 games played

346 tackles

71.5 sacks

38 passes defensed

4 interceptions

Umenyiora's getting paid $2.2M, Peppers $16.7M. Neither players sucks. If you're going to be paid like one of the best 5 players in the league, you have to do better than 2 tackles against a divisional rival in Atlanta. Do you really think $500,000/ tackle is a good value? Do you really think the performance he's showing is worth the cap space? And most importantly, did you expect anything different from a guy who doesn't want to play for our team?

Is it me or does Peppers usually start slow every year? If memory serves, and its usually cloudy, JP normally gets more active as the season goes on. Someone correct me on this or better yet, back me up...

Yeah Peppers starts slow every year but tails off after the middle of the season.....

Do you really think it's fair to judge him off one game? I don't see you mentioning the game against philly, because he performed quite well then. No i don't think 16.7 is a good deal, but it's an investment, the FO is hoping they can get him to sign a long term deal at the end of the season, they were actually working towards it before the deadline and pep said he was interested. If we get him long term, it will have been worth it IMO. I agree, it sucks, but saying he's trash because he got a lot of sacks against oakland is fuging stupid and has nothing to do with how much he's being payed. His payroll doesn't make him trash, he's still one of the top 5 DE in the league, and I'm sure cincy would fall over themselves to trade him for Odom.

If you're confused about Peppers, here's what you should know.

  • Julius Peppers is a phenomenal athlete and a work-out freak.
  • Julius Peppers is an above average NFL defensive end.
  • The Panthers decided to give Julius Peppers 17m for his efforts.
  • None of this matters because it expires after this season, and really there's nobody to go out and sign at this point anyways... so shut the hell up and deal with it until the season's over. Then, we'll talk about it.

Dude - once again, I did not say he is trash. I did not start the thread. Let's discuss the Philly game then. He had a nice game, but let's do remember that his sack and forced fumble were against Kevin Kolb when it was 38-10 in the 4th quarter and the Eagles were mailing it in. That makes zero relevant game changing plays in 2 games, not one.

Let me try to make this clear: Peppers is a good player, sometimes great, who does not give 100% every series or game. He wants out of Carolina. If he plays for us next year it will be with the franchise tag again and $18M+. Here's a refresher quote for you before we tagged him:

"If they decide to use the tag on me, the first thing that I'll be doing is requesting a trade," Peppers said Saturday. "Then anything after, basically I don't know what would be the course of action. We'll deal with that when that time comes."

This is not an investment. It is a one-year shot at the Superbowl. Hurney and Fox had one year to produce and they pulled out all the stops. It was a bad decision. The cap space he occupies left too many holes unfilled.

The point is: the ONLY way the move makes sense is if Peppers is dominant in every game. He hasn't been this season, and yes, it's relevant that the only two games he was dominant in last year were against Detroit and Oakland.

It bothers me because the two ways we could have avoided the situation (Peppers agreeing to a very lucrative long-term, more cap friendly, contract or letting him go) didn't happen which has left this team crippled.
