Who is this Cam Newton?

This will not be a popular thread

I don't think I have ever seen a QB so devoid of any joy

..a very stark contrast to previous year..too stark

i dint know if it's physical or mental or no belief in play calls or the team surrounding him

the offensive side of the ball needs to be fixed or we have wasted a hundred million $$s on a QB who seems to not want to be here  and I believe a new OC, QB coach, new philosophy is needed   He needs to be challenged and he isn't   He needs some assurance he isn't going to get his head kicked off in the pocket

i don't want to see stats about 'the offense is a top this or that', against a decent defense, it folds like a lawn chair

The book is out on how to stop Newton and the Panthers with the zone read and a modified pistol

I see a team that executes only with great and painful effort, no rhythm, no timing  when Newton could, would run, he hid many things, now he is caught in the backfield or two yards past the Los  there is no deception, no play action passing, nothing

Rivera and Gettleman, you say you 'self scout', do you not see this?  There isn't always going to be a woeful Saints defense to beat up  fix it.

Well he told us what the issue was two weeks ago.

I agree he needs to be challenged. I think Shula was good for him for a time, but he definitely needs a coordinator who is going to help him evolve. You're only as good as your coaching m.

I think it's mostly the confidence and the fact that he said he's not having fun. He's worried about surviving a play.

Season will be over soon. He can go regroup and hopefully the Panthers will do the same.

I think Cam showed good poise and leadership despite a frustrating day on offense. One segment showed him on the sidelines telling his teammates that they need to play better and it starts with him. I think the biggest problem for the Panthers offense is they do a poor job of picking up the blitz. Since the SB, teams have played us the same way, put 8-9 in the box on first and second down, then blitz 5+ on third down. It does not help that our "speed guys" Ted Ginn and Philly Brown get zero separation.

Denver broke his spirit in the Superb Owl and turned a national spotlight on him when he sulked. They literally took away his mojo.

No coach, no receiver, no general manager and no big paycheck can bring back the Cam we saw last year.

Only Cam can do that.

Football's a hard sport and it's rough on a body. And probably no one understands the crush of losing the Superb Owl more than Cam right now. He won every accolade and award he could in the game last year except for the big ring at the end. I think it crushed him more than anyone has said or even understands. I don't think his comment about it not being fun anymore just covered the extra hits he has been taking.

I think every football player who makes it to the pros hits this wall if the game doesn't injure them permanently first. Is it worth it? Is the constant pounding and lingering pain worth it? And is the public attention and constant speculation worth it? Is there enough money in the bank for me to just give up and walk away?

I think he's still a young man, now with a family, who lost at the championship level for the first time in his career and was made the goat. That's a lot on anyone's shoulders, not to mention someone with the expectations laid on them like he has.

He's remarked himself that he's a poor loser. And while sometimes that's laudable in the "I always want to be a winner" ideal, the reality is that you are going to lose the games, take the hits and then the slings and arrows, at some point. Do you get back up and fight, or do you quit?

The accident that wrecked Cam's truck a while back and left him sitting on the side of the road, amazed that he wasn't dead, was a time when he reinvested himself in reaching his potential. The team, and his fans, benefited greatly. I hope he can find it in him again to make the most of this and play with the spirit he did before.

Because even in a win, yesterday, he didn't have that fire that we all love to see on the field. And we can't light that fire for him, nor can the coaches.

Only Cam can.

There is no one answer for this question:

1) He's not having fun, we have a losing record. It's no secret that he's a sore loser, i.e. Hates to lose

2) I think they asked him to tone done his celebrations.

3) I think he's also frustrated with the play calling. With answers like, "I don't cal the plays",  "I do what I'm asked to do". Etc

4) Lastly, I think that they're trying to limit his chances of injury by holding him back but that seems to be just holding him back.

If you think he "doesn't want to be here", you've been witnessing a different player from the guy I've been watching the last several years. He has routinely put it all on the line to help this team win.

Why the hell are some of you guys so worried about meaningless poo like Cam's body language this far into his career with everything else going on around him?

We don't have other real poo to worry about, like I don't know, our disastrous OL that even Ray Charles could have seen was going to be a big problem heading into the offseason after witnessing our franchise QB get shithoused against Denver in SB50?

I'm beyond tired of these god awful threads, even after a win there is still some bitter old fart tripping over himself to start a thread about "that there Cam Nooton" somehow not being good enough.

Igo needs to crack the whip a few times around this place. This tired narrative needs to go once, and for all.

I think OP was saying Cam Newton lack of enthusiasm is a cause of Shula, the OL and such and its not like he's wrong. Overall we've been losing though, I expect Cam to not be in such a happy mood and I know the SB is still in the back of his mind. He's not too happy about that, then the refs and the away from football criticism.

Yesterday was a tough win, although I feel we should have did better offensively, Cam and the offense put just enough points up to win it. The defense did what it was supposed to do. Its a team game, offense and defense helps each out

Check his history. Dude has made numerous posts this season already about Newton "pouting".
