I think outside the first 2 rounds, people starting adding wishful thinking to their mocks. For example a prospect that many have going in the last 1st or early 2nd, we have mocked for the Panthers to select them at round 4.

TRADES

TRADE PARTNER:
CLEVELAND BROWNS

SENT:

ROUND: 2 PICK: 8

RECEIVED:

ROUND: 2 PICK: 20

ROUND: 4 PICK: 1

ROUND: 4 PICK: 36

Draft recap:

1. Shula wants weapons, we got him some.

Fournette is the most hyped RB to come out since AP dude is a freak, also with the loss to Tolbert we lose our bowling ball.  We trade down with cleveland in the 2nd and aquire their 4th rounders.  With the first 4th pick we add Perine.  Possibly the strongest RB in this draft.  IF Stewart is kept with contract restructer, Perine is Kept as the #2 FB and used in Tolbert type roles (traditional FB aquired in FA to block for Fournette).

WRs: KB, Funch still have loads of potential.  Philly has shown to be a solid player.  Only lose Ginn.  Add in KD Cannon, a super explosive player who can step in and fill Ginns shoes.  Mock Hollins in the 7th is a Tall Fast hard worker.  Former walk on Turned out to be one of the better WRs in the ACC, project at WR prospect.  Kid is a Excelent ST player, has made a Ton of Key blocks helping set up some of Switzers returns and made some nice tackles.

TEs:  After trading down Grabbed Leggett, an overall solid #2 TE.  A willing block with soft hands.  Butt also fell to the 4th post knee injury.  Kid was just too good to pass over at bpa.  With Leggett at #2, Butt can use all of next year to redsnirt and recover and start to groom Olsens replacement for down the road.

2. Defense

CB: still added some key guys.  Chidobee Awuzie is a Bradberry clone.  Too add him in the 2nd wouod be a good pickup.  Bradberry, Awuzie, Worley form a nice young group for the D

DEs:  2 guys with loads of potential on the edge in Tanoh and Hall.

Maybin is one of those hybrid LBs that we like.  Would be a nice project to groom and could be a stud ST player in the meantime like Cash this year

Well this is just using Fanspeak. Who knows if its realistic or not at this point, this is just going off whatever criteria Fanspeak uses to determine team needs it probably doesn't delve deep into what particular players teams really like or not. At this point its just a crapshoot, pre combine and player interviews/team visits and whatnot, it always becomes more realistic and a lot clearer when we get into April . But here we are in early February the draft stock of many players could change dramatically by the time we get into mid to late April..

NC FAN I really like that draft. If both Legett and Butt turned out well this could be one of the best Panther drafts ever. I'm not sure the Panthers would draft two running backs especially after already getting Fournette . Also got two good pass rushers .. If Ginn walks I'd rather us go out and sign DeSean Jackson.

Getting 2 RBs would be a little doubtful but Perine as the 2nd RB seems more realistic.  Just because the loss of Tolbert he could be the short yard back (Fournettes big issue is staying healthy so Perine on Short pound the ball scenarios help take hits off Fournette)  or 3rd down FB (meaning couod catch balls out of the backfield etc)

Aalso as far as realistic is concerned

Tanoh could fall deep into the 3rd just because hes from a small school, raw and this is a deep edge rusher class

Butt shocked me a bit, However with his knee injury. I have seen his stock multiple places talking how it has caused him to drop pretty far (having the injury that late in the season, he wont be ready for this season)  so falling late into the 4th is very realistic.

Alright last one I'm gonna do for a while.  The most recent mocks I've been doing have had 2 or 3 QBs being selected before pick 8 so that pushes a lot of players down.  Jamal Adams drops to us at pick 8, somehow Christian McCaffrey drops  to us in the 2nd. Obliagory Jordan Legett and Tanoh 3rd round picks ( although I think the draft stock for of them will blow up after the combine/interviews the could both end up being 2nd rounders or even higher). Got a couple mid round OTs and a 7th round OT for good measure , Panthers decide to dig into the draft to hopefully get at least one of the tackle positions shored up.

We pick up DeSean Jackson in Free Agency. Resign Addison and Short. Release CJ and Ginn. Ginn might have the chemistry but DJackson has better hands and comparable speed . CJ might be a verteran leader but his performance has massively declined in the last two years.

Stewart may still get most of the carries but McCaffrey will still get some decent playing time as RB #2, he also gets put on PR/KR, used alot in 3rd down and shotgun packages and well spell Stew on earlier downs when he needs  a breather. McCaffrey and Legett will massively help Cam's options in throwing short passing game. DeSean Jackson signing is huge, have an explosive option downfield who actually catches almost everything.

Of course Adams massively upgrades our whole secondary. Tanoh might be our missing pass rushing X-Factor thats been absent ever since Hardy last played , but who knows. Gettleman isn't going to spend big on the Dline that he prefers to meticulously build from the draft.

Carolina is also hinging on one of these OTs drafted will be a starter sooner rather than later, to (I assume) replace Oher and have someone else on the roster replace Remmers (who should be a backup anyway).

RND1:8

Fournette over Hooker and Adams here. Personally he is better than Gurley and right there with Zeke and AP as the best guys coming out post 2000. IMO, you do 2 things with him, reduce your QB runs which protects a big investment that has missed time taking too man hits, and it give you a pair of generational talents. He could make that 2015 Offense seam pedestrian. I LOVE Stew, but he isnt the same back as we had in the early double trouble years. put Stew and Fournette together, and this trumps Williams and Stew and honestly our best collection of offensive skill talent ever. He would help push CAP and Fozzie to FA (more on fozzie later).

RND2:40

No way this happens, but my gosh would I ever take this. Gives us a freakishly talented DE. He fits the bill in production this year, length and explosiveness. Is he a complete DE that would be a disruptive run stopper: no. Dont care at 40, his ability to get after the QB is what this team needs off the edges to pair with Short and Butler. He would be one of the steals of the draft at 40. No one here talks about McKinley because he is not in play for us, but if we trade down, he absolutely should be.

RND3:72

Mixed opinions of Walker out there, but like Barnett, the production is hard to argue with. He has been a force on against the run on top of being super productive as a pass rusher. Honestly, I would be considering him at 40. For him to fall here, yes I would double dip on DE for Walker. He doesn't have the projection as some other less accomplished players, but he is a guy i think you can plug into the rotation day one(potentially even as day 1 starter) and not worry about him being a liability. He isn't an undersized spin machine...... Too much value to pass on a project of a OT, but i could see DG thinking otherwise. Side note, everyone's favorite hyped DL TANOH KPASSAGNON was available in rd 6, which isn't happening unless the athletic hype is nothing but hot air come combine time.

RND 3:99

OBI is alot of projection and fits a need too well to pass here. I dont know if he last until 72 much less 99. If he shows up as advertised at the combine you, can forget him being there at 72. That said if he runs closer to a Kam Chancellor time, this would still be a good spot to land our big safety. He fits the jumbo secondary DG seams to be going after. Not sold he starts day one, but I like the projection long term here.

RND4:113

This hinges on the interview process. Love the talent but has to answer for the off the field incident. He either is higher up people's boards due to his interview or off the board. This pick is made assuming he interviews well for us, is remorsefull, and learned from his transgressions. If so, the talent is real. He slots in as a KR/PR guy with great slot WR tools. Would make it a interesting decision on what to do with Ginn and Brown. He is another HR threat and while we have a real one in Ginn, father time will catch up, and we need a burner. Dede fills that role as the field stretch guy, but also can work the middle. I dont see his size as a limitation, but can see it being an issue for some GMs (including DG) If this is the pick with Fournette and Stew in the fold, i can see CAP, Fozzie, and potentially Ginn gone or not retained. He helps replace the KR/PR duties for Fozzie and Ginn, plus gives you a young burner to pair with the towers of Funchess and KB. Could also push Brown out of a role if Ginn is retained (i prefer keeping Brown).

RND5: 153

To me this pick is not about Williams not living up to a starting role or Remmers failures, but depth and projection. Remmers is a FA, the clock is ticking on what to do with Williams. If Williams is nothing more than a quality backup for the Panthers, are you willing in a year to pay a good bit more to retain a guy others will see as a potential starter (he did play admirably once thrust into a starting role at RT)? Like the Williams pick before, this is depth today but projects as servicable in the passing game and dominant in the run game. David Sharpe is rarely talked about prospect on these boards. He was a big time HS recruit who big things were expected. Has he really panned out as a LT at Florida? Probably not as well as he or UofF would liked. But his size and athleticism translate to the NFL, just not at LT. He, like Williams, are big nasty OL players that should both help  the run game out. Both are guys you hope turn into the good years of Otah. Otah, when motivated and healthy was absolutely dominant in the run game. this guy like Otah, doesnt project to the LT role played in college, but his strength and size projects well in the run game on the right side. He is coming out in a weak OT class and could easily go higher.

RND6: 193

Someone will fall in love with this kid. I hope he falls here due to FB being a dying breed and he isn't an eye popping athlete.  Former walk, versatile player in the run game and passing game. He has good to great hands for a FB and good in pass protect. Good, not great lead blocker. He isn't going to be blasting holes open for guys at the next level, but if you need him to find the right holes for the RB and keep it wedged open, he is your guy. Also not a goal line bruiser, but he is sneaky good at getting yards out of nothing between the 20s and short yardage. Hardest of workers, great mentality, fits in well with the keep pounding motto. Are there more physically talented players potentially available here: absolutely. But his role with the team, ST skills as a blocker and on coverage (which is needed at this level of the draft mind you) makes him fit even if he doesn't take the #1 FB role day one. Not as devastating as lee ward, but better overall player.

RND7: 236

PS guy right now (for us, not others), but flashes good hands skills as a receiving TE prospect. Is not going to be you #2 TE you primarily keep in as a blocker. Presents a matchup problem with LB in the passing game. Unfortunately i think his fit would be best served with another team that can get creative in using his skill set primarily as a receiver. He fits a team like the Falcons in the David Tamme role more than the role Dickson fills (though would have been more useful for SB 50 the way Shula changed it up using Dickson more as a receiver). Also in the news for some unusual reason earlier in the year. Minor concern on that front that likely is cleared in interview process. Could see him long gone if a team weighs his receiving threat much higher than his deficiency as a blocker (Saints, Colts, Falcons...). With the Panthers as a run first team, he would be a upside pick who would have capitalize on an injury to make his case for the team to use him more. A guy I liked more is Micheal Roberts, because he is plug and play behind Olsen but he was long gone in this mock. Would need to wow on ST to stick.

Overall was a tough end to round 3 and start of 4, but happy overall outcome (that isn't going to happen, 2nd round talent pool was too good). Silly draft had Mike Williams (@34) and John Ross (@37) go top of 2nd. With those and McKinley dropping past the 28th pick, I pick up the phone and overpay for one of  29 to 34. There was too much starting talent to let go (lucked into McKinley), plus extra year from the 1st round can justify a small overpay. If that trade doesn't pan out, I would likely have traded up before pick 99. IMO, the quality from 85 to 113 shifted considerably and while i do like both picks, the later picks (rnd 5 on) were all munitions to package with either 99 or 113 to go get a better player earlier in the draft. Missed out on from 85 to 99, Davenport at 86, JuJu Smith Schuster at 92, Chidobe Awuzie at 93, and Isiah Ford at 96. From 99 to 113 missed out on Erick Magnuson at 101, Roderick Johnson at 102, Samaje Perine at 105, Bisnowaty at 106, Chad Wheeler at 108. I like Sharpe purely of potential to lockup the RT in the future, and to a degree Westbrook, but i could see moving those 2 picks and go up and grab any of the previous guys, and be ok with it. Ford and Schuster have #1b ceilings. Perine would make Rodgers pick different (as i dont see all 3 as rookies on the roster in 2017).

How in fugs name did you get a draft where you get cook in round 2 and Zay Jones almost drops to the 4th?

That being said that's awesome . I really wish the panthers would draft a heavy offense for one year for a change, they always go primarily defefense especially in the earlier rounds.

Getting Fournette , Cook, Jones , and Leggett seems like a dream senario. I'm not sure what that would do to our RB situation, I'm guessing we would release Tolbert and Fozzy (or Cap one of the two) , or even let Stewart go if we're drafting the top two RBs the seems to imply major roster changes to the position.

And even despite the offense heavy draft there are still two good pass rushers and a decent saftey not bad.
