Oher at practice. Do you bench Daryl Williams?

You sure about that or do ya just feel it? Like I said, it may be he's better, but not noticeably so to the average viewer. If anything he was outstanding at not being mentioned at all, which might well be a good thing for an offensive lineman.

I'm pretty sure, the way he generates movement in the running game is in different level than Remmers. His pass protection is good with initial punch that usually knocks back defenders, he may struggle with quicker guys but if master the technique with experience he could be the RT we have been looking for since Oath.

Benching Williams while he's improving puts the o-line one injury away from another depth crisis. I see Remmers performing way better as a rotation guy anyway.

I do realize that most fans only watch the ball during games. And unless there is a replay, they rarely notice the Oline play. So most times they really have no clue about Oline play. Nothing wrong with that, considering the speed of the game, it is tough to watch what players are doing.

 

I have re-watched the last 4 games only watching Daryl. He has played very well. No penalties, no sacks, works well with Trai in the run game, and rarely gets help. He has earned that RT spot. AND, they did draft him for that spot.

 

Remmers is quality depth. He can basically play all 5 spots. But, he is primarily C, and T depth. Although he has actually been less costly at LT, at least after that TB game anyway. Fewer penalties, only 3 sacks, but he gets help.

 

With how Oher looks, we may not get him back this year. I do believe that is why Larsen was brought up. Larsen is good depth should Remmers get nicked up.

 

So...if Oher does not come back this year. Do we trust Gman to address that LT spot this off-season? Or does he trust Remmers, or Larsen? Scary thought this early in the year.

First. Kalil hit the sled today. They only do that to test the shoulder, if he does not regress tomorrow, he will probably go. Work it, test it, then make the decision. So if Kalil feels good tomorrow, he will may just play.

 

If Kalil doesn't play. Gradkowski starts at C. Remmers would probably the back-up C, and Larsen would become the back-up LT.

 

Oops. I got Hawkins and Larsen mixed up. So yeah, Larsen is the back-up C. Then if needed Remmers goes to C, and Hawkins comes in at LT.

So, cuz I am bored, I am going to ask this. At LT we have Oher, Remmers, and Hawkins. If Oher does not come back this year. Do we need for Gman to address that LT position? Or do we trust Remmers? Or do we hope that Hawkins can grow into that LT of the future?

 

Or do we just go ahead and address that LT spot anyway? If the opportunity arises. I say grab a quality vet with that Norman money.

 

Ah hellz, maybe this needs its own thread? With maybe a poll added in for authenticity. I mean, it is a valid thought. Right?

You don't want to disrupt 2 spots on the OL, better to have 4 starters and one backup (assuming Kalil can't go and Gradkowski gets hurt in game), than have 3 starters and 2 backups (Remmers at C is basically a backup since he gets very little practice there now as a starter). If somehow Gino and Larsen get dinged, then Remmers is the break in case of glass C. At that point, I'd be really worried. I actually have faith in Gino. Tough match up with Donald, but honestly he's a tough match up no matter what. I think even with Kalil, I'd be doubling him on every play.

 

Yeah, I had forgotten about Hawkins. That is why I was saying Larsen would go to LT, and Remmers would go to C, if Gradkowski gets dinged up.

 

Hawkins has done well in his spot duty. That said. I would still rather have Gradkowski finish the game. Or best case, Kalil finds out tomorrow he can go Sunday.

We drafted Williams to be the RT.  Remmers is a good player and I am glad he is on our side but I think the future for the next couple of years is Oher and Williams.   Remmers has giving us a couple of good years but it is time to move him to his rightful position as backup tackle for either position.
