Why we beat the Cards: A change in approach

Do you not see the correlation between Cam holding the ball longer looking for a big play, and Stewart being out leading to a nonexistent run game?

Stewart returns, and Newton carves up Arizona's D. You don't think that's a coincidence, and Cam just remembered overnight how to throw laser short passes, do you?

I enjoy reading some of your takes, but sometimes you are really on some fuggery my dude.

Huh?

I don't get your criticism, but if you're suggesting to me that Cam hasn't had an issue with holding on to the ball too long, then you obviously haven't been watching the games. Sure, sometimes it may be the play call and/or a break down in protection, but sometimes he just refused to check down or throw the ball away because of trying to make a big play.

Secondly, if you don't understand that having Stew in to block on notably more passing downs is a good thing, or if you fail to understand that having a designed short pass to Stew as a target or a check-down helps Cam (and otherwise gives the team a lift by moving the chains), then I can't help you.

Lastly, you may "enjoy" reading my takes here or there, but I can't tell. You seem to enjoy being critical so much more. So, the way I see it, as imagined from your perspective, I must be on some "fuggery" most of the time, not "sometimes."

But, that's OK. I've come to expect it coming from you.

Of course it's been an issue. All I'm saying is it is a more complex issue than "Cam holds the ball too long!!!!".

We obviously needed better blocking, sure, but our offense is predicated immensely on being able to adequately run the ball via someone not named Cam Newton. This wasn't an issue much if at all in 2015, and we thrived.

I'm not really sure where you're going about Stewart, I've noted in the last several various posts that he is vital to our offense. But when he is absent, Newton starts pressing because he knows we are highly unlikely to get anything more than a few yards at a time from the other RB's, let alone a crucial third down conversion.

As for the rest, all I can say is.. love ya, mean it, boo.

So basically you're arguing over me saying basically the same thing you're saying...?

Okay, Red...

This should be obvious, and yet somehow, I have my doubts that Shula will stick with it.

Shula let's Cam run this offense and doesn't restrict him. He does whatever is working for the offense. If short passes are working and they are moving the ball of course Shula is going to roll with the hot hand. Cam is the one holding the ball and not looking for the outlet not Shula.  Like the outlet pass Cam missed when he got sacked on Sunday, the play was there but Cam has to see it and use it. Stop always blaming Shula for every missed opportunity and remember we have a top five offense this year.

I guess that the BYE was even more productive than most of us knew. Sure a couple of people were healthy, including our new addition in the defensive backfield, but this was but a piece of why we won. A renewed dedication by the coaches and players appears to be at the center of the obvious change. Let's hope that this coaching to specific strengths and exploitation of opponents' weaknesses, while limiting our own, continues. Lets hope that the players continue to listen and execute. We saw it happen, so we know it's possible.

Really nice article you posted, and I am thankful that the Panthers coaches really do seem to have shaken some things up during the bye week as a result of the self-scouting.  I loved the faster pace on offense, quick passing, short strikes.  It made a difference.

Re: defense, personally, I've been arguing for awhile that Ealy is much better on the left and opining that he should get some playing time there.  I was really glad that happened.  And it seems we've found a much better DT rotation, with splitting Star & Short up.  Somehow it seemed to keep the pressure more consistent throughout the game.
