ESPN article re: Cam's lack of RTP calls with comps (must read)

Great article to bookmark where the writer breaks down with pictures and gifs blatant missed calls against Cam (even one from the SB), and compares them to other QB's getting hit in a similar fashion.

Also mentions how Cam has been hit 59 times in the pocket since 2014 and hasn't benefited from a single accepted RTP penalty, where someone hit a similar amount of times in that span (Drew Brees, for example) has drawn 10. Yes, TEN.

If you think the refs haven't been screwing Cam over, you are out of your mind. Make sure you memorize the facts and stats in the article so that the next time some armchair dipshit talks to you about how Cam is just whining, you can layeth the smack down.

I think what pissed me off the most is that I never realized (or I wiped it from my brain) that the hit on Cam that caused the strip-sack in "that" game was a helmet-to-helmet hit.

Thanks, Montsta... now I'm pissed about "that" game all over again... lol.

It's really mind boggling as to why Cam is getting different treatment.  While the league will circle the wagons on the issue "we're human/we'll take a look," it's difficult to see them change things.

The talking heads have been talking about the ratings slump the NFL has had this season.  I think it's pretty obvious why:  they are taking the fun out of the game.  Celebrations are being eliminated, ref calls are getting worse, and the celebrated personalities are losing their lustre.

If the NFL wants to keep getting golden eggs out of the old goose, they need to protect one of their most fun assets: Cam Newton.  Sure, we're biased as Panther fans, but at the end of the day, he's one of their most marketable stars.  From a business sense, they need to ensure that Cam is happy with fair calls.  Once he get's a in a happy grove, it only helps their ratings.

(Totally homer-ific)

Folks may not like him around these parts, but OBJ is having this issue as well as far as calls and the fun being sucked out of the game for him.

He's big, he's mobile and up until this year, yes I hate to say it, but he's been known for flagrent flopping and he's been pretty damn good at selling it. Seems like the refs decided to send him a message and it's turned out pretty bad for all parties.

I don't understand how anyone can make it any more complex than that.

Now it's up to the league office to see what they do in respects to talking to Cam.

Given the absolutely blatant running helmet to helmet spear that Beckham pulled on Josh Norman last season, I don't think you'll find a lot of sympathy for him here.

It doesn't help that he acts like a spoiled child.

I couldn't name a single QB (or punter or kicker, for that matter) that isn't frequently guilty of "flagrant flopping".

Heck, I remember Delhomme pulling one that was so painfully obvious my buddy and I were laughing our asses off.

Huge difference there. OBJ isn't disliked because he has fun or dances, he is disliked because he's a huge twat who plays dirty.  I can't say for sure whether his complaint about calls is legit because I don't watch enough of their games, but I do know I'm disinclined to believe him because of what I have seen from him.  It hasn't been just us he's played dirty against.  Last year before our game vs the Giants he already had opposing players speaking out about his bs (I think it was the Bills and I forget the other team).

I applaud Cam for saying what he felt because it goes beyond him & he knows it. Read between the lines of what he said. He could only speak to what happened with him but he was silently screaming that it happens to all QB's. Goodell knows it, the NFLPA knows it, but no one speaks about it. They throw flags for celebrating instead. Then the NFL, as stupid as they are, issues a statement that since 2014 there have been 11 missed calls on other QB's. Plus the 3 they claim to have missed with Cam for a grand total of 14 missed.

"Let's shame Newton by showing him how many we actually missed that didn't involve him." Bingo! That's exactly what Cam wanted you to do. Advertise how bad you are lol.

Start at the 1:30 mark if 2 minutes is too long for you.  http://cbsprt.co/2fpzNMd

Hey, I'm not saying it's a bad thing, especially for us. Ha.

I'm just saying he did it pretty relentlessly, and I'm sure the refs wanted to teach him a lesson. It's got nothing to do with race or anything else. It's because he's Cam Newton, showboater extraordinare, killer QB, even killer runner, big guy, fashionable guy, eloquent talker(in his own right) and one of the best damn players in this league. I'm sure refs got tired of him flopping, he stopped(halfway through last season) and they stop(now) and poo blows up now.

To all you people calling race, let's just stop after the fact Winston got 5 last year and Wilson got 3.

This is Cam newton and his personality. Personally I love the fact he took it this far. The league MVP called out godell on national TV saying your game isn't fun anymore. Do you know how much he will influence kids with those simple words, they are words of walking away not causing trouble, of self preservation.

It's like the whole flossing thing. VS. Denver on nation TV he was flossing on the sidelines, there was probably 10 million kids watching that who's parents told them before or after to go floss your teeth. He's a fuging hero.

I just wish he could keep his fast ball under control.

quarterback has been a traditionally white position and black QBs have traditionally drawn an insane amount of ire. they have to be perfect, they have to be deferential, they can't slip up or they'll be drawn and quartered for it. it's not that bad now but it's interesting to see how the well-liked black QBs now are invariably the soft, quiet, "well spoken" (aka doesn't speak african-american english) black men that don't curdle white peoples' milk.

it's a legitimate argument to make.

Exactly well said
