How good have Gettleman's drafts been?

To take this a step further. Only 2 players that Gman has drafted are not in the league. Kugs, and Gaffney. Every other player is still in the dad burn league.

  • I don't care how you spin it. That is an impressive string of success.

Which also means we had a lot of postion that lacked talent , the other teams drafted well years prior where the core of the team was set ahead of the Panthers but DG still did a good job with the picks whish he was just more balanced.

Gaffney was just promoted to the Patriots active roster.

This is cherry-Getty-picking.  There are so many other things that a GM can and should be judged by that you just can't take a swath of information, place it over the front of a looking glass, and then proceed to say that this man is great because you're viewing something that you or others might consider positive on the surface.

Drafting is but a piece of the puzzle, and while it's great to get quality players, you also have to judge the misses, or the opportunities that were lost, not only within the draft, but also free agency. Regarding the draft, you must also be aware of the price that's spent to acquire a player, relative to the spot where he was drafted.

We've lost several draft picks by moving up to get players that we may have realistically acquired later if we had held our position.  We've also just lost out by not drafting people we should have drafted because we drafted someone else.

Even within the draft, unto itself, I don't think that a person just being a starter or perceived good depth on your team is an adequate enough litmus test to draw a conclusion that a draft was successful. The more pertinent point---or question, that you should ask yourself is whether or not this person would be a starter (or higher ranked depth) on most teams, especially the ones that always seem to be in contention every year (with perhaps a little drop-off, if any).

I mean, there are so many things to consider, that your contention is someone skewed.

Usually why a new GM is brought in. Not sure what that has to do with the fact that only 1 player drafted by Gman is not in the league.

I don't care how you spin it, or what excuse you use. That is an impressive feat.

Well, if you prefer wins as the standard, we've won more consistently over the past three years than any stretch in team history and had our best season ever last year.

So...Still looks pretty darn good.

Eh its basically 2003-2005

^^^ Some of you guys are holding G-man to an impossible standard.  No GM In the league is maintaining quality starters and depth at every position and able to address every need.  Just look at Seattle and their horrendous offensive line situation.

And obviously he can't be blamed for the rash of injuries we've had.  Give us last year's luck in avoiding injuries, Luke's concussion not withstanding, and we're sitting at 4-3 at worst right now.

at least as a percentage of their picks

Belichick has made 26 draft picks.  With Collins being traded, only Three (3) of those 26 picks are currently starters on their roster!  In fact, only 10/26 are even currently on the roster.  Of the three starters: Brown, White, and Ryan, none have even made a pro-bowl.

Belchick stock piles picks to fill out his roster. He retains key draft picks past their rookie contracts as core players. He farms depth from his draft picks. Then he trades them for future value or role players.

A majority of his roster has been acquired with draft picks.

The percentage of picks is ridiculous. Drafting 5 players per season and forcing coaches to start players by not acquiring veteran talent is a flaw. When you have to start your draft picks early, then that is a bad sign of what is going on with the roster.
