What the hell? This makes no sense at all, dude was a 2nd team all-pro last year and is a beast. They have a lot of guys they'd have to let walk soon because of the cap but why not keep him this season and get the same 3rd round comp pick the next year?

I don't really get it at all to be honest unless he did something to piss Belichick off

And we haven't traded our comp pick because....?

In all seriousness, bizarre move at best without knowing the context, when you think about it maybe we will see some change in philosophy moving forward.

Getts has set the expectation for draft day trade ups, (I don't recall any trading down) so perhaps this is apart of our approach in the next draft, having more fuel to trade up is a good thing.

I think this up and coming draft played a role. This draft is loaded with talent. I also believe this draft played a role for releasing Josh Norman.

Railroading yourself into not being able to sign quality free agents so you can pick up a sweet, sweet late round pick a couple years from now isn't really something successful teams hungrily chase after.

They don't have the cap room to go out and sign any quality free agents anyways, otherwise they'd have just put the money towards Collins and Chandler Jones before trading him. They're contenders this year and let their best defensive player go for literally nothing.
