That John Brown TD showed exactly why we need a SS

If we actually had a starting caliber SS who is stronger and more fundamentally sound in coverage, then Kurt Coleman could o back to FS where he belongs. With Coleman at FS, I don't believe that TD ever happens (and Coleman quite possibly would have been in position to get a pick).

Just saying.

Funny how Coleman is basically around every TD but only the few Boston has been around get called out.

Stop trying to talk like you know how the safeties are playing till all 22 comes out.

It was a simple observation based on Boston and Coleman's play at their respective positions this season, and Coleman's outstanding play last season. I could give a poo about the all-22. That's admittedly not my wheelhouse. So, what?

It looked to me that both safeties stayed towards the outside just a little too long. I have no idea if its because they suck, it was on luke, or if they are just too worried about helping the corners that it slows down their reaction

I think that's fair, but I do miss Coleman at FS (where I know he does everything but suck).

Perhaps, but it still doesn't change my mind about that specific play, nor the general play of Boston and Coleman this year.  Coleman is much more adept at FS because of great instincts.

That was a play was a post behind the LB to the middle of the field on a cover 2 defense.  If Luke doesn't drop deep there is nothing a safety can do in that situation.

That being said, everyone looked better today with the pressure we were getting (especially the 1st half).  I think if we start to get consistent pressure like last year, you would be able say yeah Boston sucks, Coleman is better whatever.  But we have not gotten nearly the defensive line pressure we got last year.

Coleman wasn't making a lot of plays on instinct , he was making plays because he was where he was supposed to be.  If we run as many stunts, blitzes ,etc as we did today, maybe we get more consistent DL pressure and maybe everyone in the secondary looks better.

I would argue that a FS is where he is supposed to be because of good instincts. Boston is more reactionary and doesn't have the ball skills that Coleman obviously displayed last year.

If Coleman was FS on that play, Brown doesn't make the TD.

Coleman picked off 7 passes last year and had a pick in the NFC title game. There was strong argument for him to be a Pro Bowler last season. I hated seeing him move after that type of production. I hope we can bring in a legit SS (via FA, the draft, or a trade) and move him back to FS.
