As far as Gettleman goes, I'm not on some fire him nonsense, and he's still my GM. But he blew it this offseason. I'm sorry boys, but there is no way around it. I'm all for some Panthers shades sometimes, but there's no way around this. The honeymoon period is over.

What more could he had realistically done this off season?

The Norman situation was a disaster.

Even if you can make yourself believe that we didn't need him this year, and releasing him was a good move in route to having to rely on rookies in a secondary when we have a struggling pass rush. Not making any moves to acquire some fresh talent at the offensive tackle position after watching our MVP quarterback get lit up like a Christmas tree behind this OL not only in the Super Bowl, but in the season opener as well is simply beyond excuse. If you can tell me with a straight face you see no issue there whatsoever, I don't think we have much to talk about. I understand certain levels of homerism, but we f*cked up there. Period.

[...]he has become a really bitter spiteful kind of person.

Well, according to Igo, it's more like he stopped bothering with the facade. But you make a good point, and it's possible he's lost his way from it.

As far as Gman, I still believe he will make a better team in the long run. Folks can call me blind, clueless, whatever... don't care about them. He took a gamble on letting Norman walk for the big pay day he was expecting, and we're hurting for it. I honestly believe the bigger mistake was not taking a flyer on Weddle, or some other younger guys who hit free agency. To me, the corner play hasn't been horrific, it's been serviceable by a group of rookies, which I can live with for now. It's the idiotic move of Coleman to SS, coupled with starting Boston that's been the Achilles Heel of the defense. No help over the top 7/10 times will net you 300+ games from faster wideouts in this league. No discipline, no stop. Someone need to tattoo that on the back of Tre's eyelids. Maybe then, he'll get it.

If we had to make a sacrifice this year on defense as a whole, and knew we would potentially take a step back, I guess I could have accepted that somewhat if we actually took steps to ensure we could adequately protect our QB so we could put points on the board.

Cam has been consistently taking a beating going all the way back to the Super Bowl. I fear our front office has taken his size, and abilities for granted. It seems they kind of realized this since they apparently asked him not to run against NO, which is bizarre considering there was little to no effort made in shoring up the OL this offseason.

Oh, I definitely agree with you there. That would be the second mistake Getts made, in that we should have made a push for an OT that wasn't driven out of town on a bus by his last team and fanbase. To be fair, though, he had Williams coming into his second season, as an up and comer, and two guys who had blocked well enough to get us to the Superbowl. A seasoned, mid-range vet OT should have been acquired, at the least, if just to push the starters to perform better. Relying on the Foucault experiment to push one more year through training camp (thank goodness it didn't), and hiring Joe Bob off the street has definitely crushed our offense on many drives this year. It hasn't helped that Cam has probably been playing with a concussion, or minor head trauma, since Denver (fug those asshole cheating pricks) either.

Getting killed by fast DEs since then (Vikings are legit) hasn't helped much either. That, I blame squarely on the poor play of the OTs, and Getts for not bringing in someone else to challenge them.

Doesn't Norman deserve some blame in the disastrous situation?

He tagged him in hope of a long term deal. When he realized that wasn't possible he let him go.

Fresh offensive tackle talent like who? List them. Remember $14M was tied up to Norman until April.

I've said it before if you blame him for anything it should be for believing in his guys too much. It obviously did not work out well that's why I asked the question.

Without Gettleman this team does not sniff a Super Bowl appearance last season. His team was good enough to win it. I looked at the drafts they are still better than Hurney's.

Hurney is not in the same league as Gettleman as a GM. I shouldn't even have to defend a Hurney Vs Gettleman question, the smart money is on Gettleman.

If you going to be objective you actually can't compare Hurney vs Gettlemen yet...

how was Hurney viewed as a GM 3-4 years in here? Better than Gettlemen.

comparing now has always been skewed because it doesn't allocate Gettlemen time to show he flaws which he just now appears to be giving is a strong taste of.

4 years in? Hurney was crushing top draft picks, showed ability to bring in difference makers in FA, 2 NFCCGs and a Super Bowl...no one bashed Hurney back then

Did I say he didn't share any blame? I stated it was a disaster. And it definitely was. Not going to rehash the he said/she said tomfoolery.

Whether you feel we would be better with him or without him currently is a personal opinion.

As for the OL, you don't have to throw record money at guys to get serviceable results bud. We found Norwell for a reasonable amount. You at least make some kind of effort to protect your QB knowing that he has been through the ringer. We didn't. It's biting us in the ass. Are you at least going to acknowledge that or no? If not, let's just call this quits.
