I hate when people use the "would you rather have Hurney narrative?".

News flash: GETTLEMAN WOULD HAVE NEVER DRAFTED CAM NEWTON. 

No way he would have took that chance that put us where we are today. So think about then when you compare them.  Hurney gave gettleman all the leverage to be as cocky as he is because you already  have  a QB that can carry your team.

Which had a lot to do with the teams he put together sucking so bad that we had consistently high picks.

As has been explained before, GMs put together teams of 53 guys, not 4 or 5. Even Matt Millen was able to get half a dozen or so good players out of the draft.

Under Hurney's guidance we had three successful seasons over an eleven year period. Under Gettleman, we've had three successful seasons in...wait for it...three years. You can say one was a down year, but then you also have to factor in that last season was the most successful season in Panthers history.

Oh, and any suggestion that Gettleman just lucked into that or that it somehow happened in spite of him is just absolute ignorance. For that matter, the notion that the guy who traded away future first rounders for guys like Everette Brown was somehow a better drafter is enough to classify someone as an utter idiot.

Down years really do bring out the stupidity in people, and this year is no exception.

Gross did not like him, and that was made known. Gross and Smitty were in the same fold. Beason did not like Gettleman either. Gettleman is a a war with players and agents. This will only get worse. Gettleman will have money for free agency, but no players will work with Getlleman unless they need him to leverage another team. He will be stuck over paying for mediocre talent like Paul Soliai.

Those were rebuilding seasons following the lame duck/JR crusade tank year for the Panthers organization.

Tearing down the great moments of the past to prop up Gettleman's failure is ridiculous. I am very glad the Panthers chose Cam and Luke, because there we many GMs like Gettleman who would not have done the same.

Luke got passes up by GMs when he was supposedly a sure bet, and Cam was doubted by many to be the 1st overall pick.

No it's not and I created a thread on this subject a few years back. There's a difference in paying someone AFTER they "flat proved it" -Gettleman's own words. And taking a chance on a guy right out of college. Gettleman likely would have signed a guy like Fitzpatrick and drafted Marcell Dareus

Which is all still speculation.

As I recall, you were continually harping on the notion that Gettleman didn't like Cam and wouldn't extend him. Since that blew up in your face, I guess now you're left with "Oh...well...he wouldn't have drafted him!"

Given that history, you don't really have a lot of credibility on this discussion.

The idea that just because a GM gives a contract extension to a PROVEN TOP PLAYER IN THE LEAGUE means that he would have drafted that same one great year, risky QB based off potential alone is the most idiotic thing I have seen on this board, but that's common coming from you. Also considering cam was a risk and DG would have had von miller, Marcel darius,  aj green, Pat peterson, tyrone Smith, julio Jones, JJ watt, Robert Quinn to choose from.......
