First of all, I think that it has pretty much been proven that Funchess does get separation. Cam does make the wrong reads sometimes, particularly if under consistent duress. But even if you don't agree with that point, how are you going to take that 4.7 number and hold it up as some kind of evidence and keep any credibility in this discussion?  Funchess was hurt when he put up that number (and I believe it was his toe which made it even worse). He ran a 4.47 during his pro day (IIRC).  Come on, dude.

Show me where he has proven he can get separation. He has one of the worst production per snaps  stat sheet in the entire league. Even Munnerlyn called him out, outside a few moments in the Tampa game he's been blanketed this entire season, even in the SF game he had trouble separating from the DB.

Every player runs faster in his pro day since its done by hand instead of laser. Funchess has never been fast to begin, he was a tight end for a reason.

You really need to go through this entire thread because there is at least another instance where he is wide open, but here you go:

Just stop it with the laser-hand time business. Funchess is not slow. He's a legit 4.50 guy.

LMAO I responded to those still already. He wasn't open in any of them outside of the ones in which Cam already threw the ball and the db's were reacting to the play. And no he's not a legit 4.5 he's closer to a 4.6

This is separation

He is open in all of those images. This isn't high school. It's the pros. You are not going to generally have even a five foot window in the pros. The receiver has to run good routes, and the QB has to place the ball in tight spots. Sometimes the QB has to even throw the receiver open.

We'll just have to agree to disagree. When Funchess is a productive receiver in this league---with us or someone else---you'll remember this conversation.

Anyway, back to a markedly unproductive Ginn...

Come on, man.  Sanchez is a rookie who has never really shown anything at his position like Byrd has at his. The move from Ginn to Byrd is a much easier transition than Sanchez to anyone because of Byrd's talent, upside and speed. Furthermore, no disrespect to Steve Wilks, but he is not Ricky Proehl. And, lastly, Byrd has had 18 monthes to get acclimated to what we're doing here, while Sanchez has had not quite 6 months.

Obviously we're just going to disagree on Byrd and Ginn.

I don't hate Byrd. I just think Ginn is way too important to our offense. What if Kelvin or, god forbid, Olsen goes down? He's a guy Cam trusts and proved last year he can be solid when we need him to be. How many guys in team history have had three straight games with 2 touchdowns, four games overall of that type in a season and 10 TDs?

Gettleman trading for a CB would be basically admitting that letting Norman walk was a crucial misstep in the offseason. I highly doubt he makes a move.

poo! Everyone knows it was a big error now.  That's pretty much undeniable. He can't save face now. It would look much better for him now if he at least looks like he is trying to fix the error of his own making.  Here is a golden opportunity to make a position of weakness stronger by holding serve in another.  But, like you said, he probably continues to sit on his hands.

I just showed you what open is on the still I posted, Funchess wasn't open in any of them. Cam has to constantly throw Funchess open.

Cam has made Ginn a 5th string receiver productive even guys like Legadu Nanee and Louis Murphy have been productive, now your telling me somehow Cam can't make Funchess productive even though according to you "he's always open".

Maybe he would work better on another team, I know we passed on Diggs and Coates would have been perfect in Carolina

First of all, Cam didn't make Ginn. Ginn was a product of being in the right system, in the right place, at the right time. He would likely be sitting on someone else's bench, hadn't Gettleman picked him up as a Band-Aid to help alleviate Cap hell.  Secondly, neither Nanee or Murphy were particularly productive in Carolina in any shape, fashion or form. They came here to "die" basically, and no one could revive them. Moreover, I don't remember saying that Funch is always open, but if I did, it was just a figure of speech. But he is not this slow, lumbering, never open, possession, KB-type receiver that you want to make him out to be.

I agree with you wholeheartedly on Coates and Diggs (though I don't remember him being on the radar, not saying that he wasn't). Coates' hands are looking real similar to Ginn's so far though.  A route runner like Diggs would balance the receiving corps off to a tee.
