You do realize KK is the best DT this season. What does that say for Star, Soliai and Butler's performance?

Wes Horton and Kony Ealy are getting play at DT on passing downs because Star is ineffective at generating a pass rush or playing anything outside of a 1 tech.

Star's hogging up all the DTs and Triples from what I've seen from Igo's post. Sure, KK is getting pressure, but I think Star legitimately helps that.

Now granted, KK is getting no help from his DEs, making him less effective at actually getting the sacks to prove his effectiveness.

Not sure that will be said after he is continuously tossed to the ground and pushed off the line 5+ yards on every running play.

He is the Ryan Delaire of DTs. They enjoy laying on the ground with the RB slashing right by him for a guaranteed 5 yard gain.

And that is how you screw up the LBs and let a FB score a TD.

Butler looks good at the LB level. Maybe put him at MLB. He likes that spot.

Not really trying to get in to it with anyone, but the gif you posted is from a rookie's first NFL game ever against the super bowl champions.  I'm not saying the kid will be a super star but I also don't think it's fair to call out this particular play.

True point. What I've seen he's been relatively solid in his play, able to generate pressure and look good, especially for a first year rookie. Name a DT that has been all-pro his first year. Very few, if any, have been that good, and Butler has a high ceiling. I personally am one of the few that currently really like the potential from our first and second pick this year.

Star is suppose to collect the double teams because he plays the 1 technique. The 3 technique is not suppose to get doubled. That is reserved for a DT like Star and blitzers or edge rushers. When the 3 technique gets doubled more than the 1 technique on passing downs, that means your 1 technique and/or edge rushers are not getting their job done.

When Rivera says KK is getting doubled too much, it is because he is not suppose to be drawing double teams if the rest of the DL is effective.

The DBs have a big part in this, because they are allowing QBs to throw the ball in less than 3 seconds. KK did not get his sacks last season from getting to the QB in less than 3 seconds.

30. Vernon Butler, DT, Panthers (Louisiana Tech)

Snaps: 64

Overall grade: 71.4

Carolina’s defensive front hasn’t been anything near the unit it was last season, and the Panthers could have done with an impact from Butler off the bench, but that just hasn’t happened. Butler has only played 64 snaps, and has just two total pressures from 46 pass-rushing snaps, along with only one stop in the run game.

I'm trying to understand this grade. Is this line meant to say he's doing well or not? If not then why is he graded average?
