I guess. I just don't really like that group. They seem like they could be nothing but trouble

Yeah, I feel more and more like the Negan arch is just a pile of poo (TV arch)

And they are gonna stretch it out over another season too

To show you where my mind is with TWD, my wife and I, since getting caught up in binge watching during season 5, have made it an absolute staple of our week to sit down and watch it together on Sunday night.  One or two times, we were busy and couldn't watch until Monday, but for the most part we watch it live.  This week, we didnt make it around to watching it until yesterday afternoon.  And i wasn't even slightly tempted to watch it without her lol.

After watching it, I see why...  it just feels like it has either hit a serious rut or has already jumped the shark - probably starting with the fake Glenn death.  Like another poster, my wife commented how completely unmoved she was by the Rick fake death in this episode.  I felt the same way.  I never believed it and thought it was cheap and unnecessary.  Although it did lend itself to a fan theory I recently read not long ago, that basically the whole comic series/show is being told by Carl as an old man - it's why his dad always beats the odds, is seemingly superhuman, smarter than everyone else, etc.

That being said, the same old plot devices and cheap thrills don't work anymore.  Character development, along with dialogue in general, has stagnated and it feels like, as I predicted in the thread a while back, that th writers are trying to waste time to avoid catching up to the comics' current time and place.  It is becoming clearer with each episode that they are purposely dragging things out to avoid having to figure out where to go after the inevitable Negan showdown.

I seriously have come to the realization that we only watch it out of habit and it's something we do together....  but it's not fun or interesting anymore.  I've actually caught myself wanting to go back and watch the first season over again - i was absolutely riveted with the writing and visuals those first couple of seasons.

oh jez, I can totally see it now...

Random old man rocking in a chair with Rick's Python.....telling the story of grandpa to his son who now is wearing Rick's hat.

oh yeah, but that won't be gotcha enough.  Then the little boy goes, dad your stories are so silly, we all know there is no such things as zombies.  Then the camera pans up to Carl's blackened eye and zooms in to a dark screen.  AND scene.  The show is over.

Yeah, that seems like one of the more plausible theories I've read, because Kirkman has shot down the idea that Rick is still in a coma/dreaming, or that it actually isn't happening.

I also read somewhere that Kirkman has said he doesn't really have an interest in explaining what caused it and seems to skirt around how it will ever resolve - which is possible to do without explanation if one of your characters is telling the story after it's all over.

While I am not sure I would be a fan of that ending, I am also not sure what type of ending for this show would be a good one.

Similar to The Leftovers, I hope that the question of what actually happened is never answered.  There really is no answer at this point that I feel would be satisfying.

As long as Rick does not become a lumberjack though.

IMO if they never address the origin then everyone will have to die or they will have to do some type of time jump or odd ball ending to end it.  Carl makes sense for the time jump forward.  All the odd ball gags (dream, snow globe, etc junk simply has been done).  I don't see any other way to end it.

Eventually all of the zombies will rot away and humanity will be left to rebuild from the ashes, which would be a great story in itself.

Also, I don't know which is sadder. That it took a Forbes article for some people to realize Negan is an idiot, or the fact that he gets paid for stating the obvious like it is some grand revelation. It's like explaining poo to toddlers in here sometimes.

Honestly it is a better story than what we have watched, even when it was good

Last night's episode was fantastic from top to bottom, other than Richard's plans always being pointlessly complex, like a Wile E Coyote episode.

Yeah it wasn't bad.  I hate seeing him die since he would be valuable in a fight but he understood.    It's just silly that maybe all this could have been prevented if Ezek just helped Rick or Morgan just freaking told Carol what happened.  But that's how B-tv writing is.    Either or, it was better than the usual episodes they put out.    Guess we'll now get Cheat-code-Carol and Psycho-Morgan on Negan lol.

    • Yes.  And this converts directly to confidence.  Does the coach have confidence to call a deep dig or seam route?  Does Bryce have confidence in his ability to be the Alpha?  Do his teammates have confidence.  About film--when I see Cam Newton's pre-snap confidence vs. Bryce's, it is night and day.   Film--tells you if the WRs are open (why l love watching the Replay telecasts from the end zone cameras--you can see it.  I have seen 2 WRs open and Bryce's eyes are on the outlet WR or the pass rush. )  You can see progressions, and he has improved a bit--but he is very quick to rush through 1 and 2 and checkdown--that is a lack of confidence in his ability to read the defense.  I had a former NFL TE (Deems Maye) who played QB in high school (not sure about college) tell me that the best QBs read the defense by knowing where everyone will be when the ball is to arrive--not where they are.  I think his QB at the time was Humphries.  He said that Humphries would throw the ball into coverage before the cuts etc.  because he understood DB momentum, zone areas, etc.  and he could just see it.  Said so when people say nobody was open, they are usually right because nobody should be "open" when the QB has the ball--when the ball arrives, everyone should be open.  He said Humphries was never "great" but his skills were limited--from a small school--but his ability to read a defense made him never give up on a route.
