Negan is an integral figure in the Whisperer War, and pretty much a major catalyst for that conflict. I'm not sure who I see taking his place, if they decide to take it that far.

I hope they do. Should be fun to see Beta.

Andrea did a lot of stuff in the comics...she got got.

TV likely hyped Negan into something that doomed him.  Not sure we can expect anything different than what we have seen this season to finish this season off in that regard.  TV overall doesn't have a comic backing and therefore the hype, milking of the intro and now the arc...and fact Negan is just annoying to a large portion of the TV crowd likely forces them adjust IMO.

Also I doubt JDM is going to want to be part of it that long especially if his character continues down the road it is on all season because the Negan critics will get louder (with more of the same Negan).

if I told you last year in the lead up that a created Simon character would be more badass than Negan 6 episodes into meeting Negan....you would have called that crazy and the TV show screwing it all up.

I really think there is more chance of the Falcons losing out, the Panthers winning out, and us crushing everyone in the playoffs and winning SB 51 100-0 than Negan dying on the TV show before he bites it in the comics. He's just the best character, to me at least. Basically, Negan is the embodiment of how Rick thinks he should be versus how Rick actually struggles to be. IMHO his whole character is a symbol of Rick's vulnerability, both literally and figuratively.

I know it is pretty spoilerish territory we've now found ourselves in, being we're speculating on Negan's future.

He's not dead in the comics, no, and the show has a long way to go to catch up to the comics.

If anything, I could see a transition of TWD following Rick Grimes to Negan being the main character, to be completely honest. At one point in time, I thought Rick and Carl would be invincible, and that they would be the main characters throughout the series. But, I don't know if that is true anymore, because we have a lot of options as far as more interesting characters go.

I also don't think the show will catch up to the comics as fast as some of you think. You're talking at least 3-4 more seasons, and by that time the comics would still be way ahead.

Nothing lasts forever, and I wouldn't be surprised if we see TWD (the comic and the show) eventually doing a final time jump, like 50 years or more into the future, with an elderly Carl or someone finishing up their memoirs of the zombie apocalypse, and how his group of survivors had to find a way to live a normal life again.

To me, that would be the best way to end it. Bring closure to the whole situation (cure found?, adapting to living with the knowledge that when everyone dies you gotta stick them in the head? etc.) and just basically tie up all loose ends from a narrator's standpoint. Otherwise, you will just continue on the treadmill that most show-only people complain about about there being bad guy after bad guy after bad guy.

Nobody. Negan just killed their leader, Alpha to prove his loyalty to Rick. He brought her head back to Rick as proof.

You should probably go sit down and cry now.

Who do you cast?

To me, he's always been Kevin Nash, lmao...

Matt Willig would be another option...

This is an example of what I was talking about, though. Andrea's character is still on the show. She was replaced by Michonne.

Negan needs no hype. He's the best character of the series. He hasn't had the greatest screen time or the impact he did initially in the comics, but give it time.

I think JDM would stay as long as the money does. And the fact that everyone has chosen a side but continues to discuss this each week means that the money is still going to come in. It is one reason Daryl has such heavy plot armor. Can you imagine the actual outrage if it would have been Daryl that got the bat? I mean, I have already seen people literally crying over Glenn's death. Show-only people I talk to at this point, especially the intelligent ones, have just got tired of the show trying to play the carrot game with viewers. They don't like Negan, but they see the potential of him becoming a main character. They just can't understand why I'm so obviously Team Negan, and just think he's a bad guy. lol

Simon will likely die soon. If I had to guess, without looking up filming spoilers, I would guess that he dies in a Daryl escape, or something involving Carl. That will be TV making a great decision, because they are toying with viewers who are all like "omg Simon is a better character than Negan."

I just had a hilarious vision of a Six Feet Under style montage showing everyone's death.   If they did that they would screw it up simply because that is the best finale ever and nobody could possibly duplicate it.

Your idea would be good if done well though.   I think the hardest thing in entertainment is the series finale simply because the failure rate is so high.

If Negan dies at the end of this current arc, that would be a huge waste, and they'd have to fill his role with another character going forward, which I don't see happening.

Even if ratings drop to 25% of what they currently are, they are still gonna be one of the most watched shows on cable television, so AMC is gonna ride this until they can score another huge hit.

He is the best character in the comics....but we aren't talking about the comics.

why are the ratings trending down now steadily if Negan and this part is the best part of it all?

Negan is the 2nd best Savior.  It is what it is.  That will be a problem the TV simply has...and killing Simon doesn't solve the error of that creation.

More people are watching it on DVR or Demand.

http://undeadwalking.com/2016/11/18/walking-dead-ratings-season-7/

Of course people are going to tune in live for the 4 most important episodes, season opener, midseason finale, midseason opener and season finale, but a lot of people just wait to watch the other episodes when they can ffwd. Only masochists watch it as it airs live.

So the "ratings are trending downward" is a huge lie.

Neegan grows on you.. Like somebody else said earlier, he really is the best part of the comic series at the moment. I legit lol at something he says every issue.

Probably true, but every time there is a criticism of the TV show the response is ...but it is cool in the comic.

AMC ain't making their bread off the comic fanbase.  They are making it off those tuned into the show about Daryl, Rick, Carol etc....yet comic fans however would tell you Carl and Negan are so much better

that is the reality the present situation presents IMO.  Two groups viewing it different. Solution will be IMO to let the comic fans have there story and the TV people there's.

you easily can kill off Negan next year.  TV fans don't want 4-6 MORE seaons with their main cast chilling at Alexandria.  TV Negan will be good enough to cause Daryl Dixon and company to chill at Alexandria for 6 seasons?
