L. Johnson is positive about what's to come.

“I can bring a spark,” Johnson said. “I think we’re just one play away from turning this whole thing around. Collectively, we’re doing a great job right now. We’ve just got to put together some pieces and all the pieces of the puzzle will come together.”

Johnson won’t fix everything that is wrong with the Panthers, but he could be a part of the solution. He was signed to bring experience to the nickel position, where from 2012-14 with Tampa Bay he had five interceptions, five forced fumbles, 20 passes broken up and two touchdowns.

Perhaps Johnson can provide some positive play in a decidedly negative outcome so far this season in the defensive backfield.  As David Newton reported, there is somewhat of a reason to believe that Johnson will play better than he has in the past.

“The doctor told me he doesn’t know I’ve been playing with that the last four years,’’ he said. “So if I did it those [things the] last four years, I can do it with the problem being fixed.

“It just feels amazing, man.”

The Panthers likely won’t decide whether to activate Johnson to the 53-man roster until Friday. To expect him to make an immediate impact against Arizona might be too much to ask.

Well, of course we would like an immediate impact because the time clock for a playoff run is getting critical, but I'm sure many of us would just be pleased to see Johnson helping to gradually improve the secondary.  Hopefully that would be as "amazing" as Johnson's Achilles feels.

I honestly do think that Bradberry, McClain and Johnson, who we're all getting back, are each better than any single other CB who's played for us this year aside from maybe Worley who's close to McClain but just doesn't have the experience and consistency yet. CB group is going to be hugely improved after the bye. Unfortunately that's not our only issue. But fortunately the other ones can be corrected without having to change personnel.
