Is it time for Daryl Williams?

It was against the Saints. How he'd stand up against say the Cardinals is still up in the air.

Beasley went off for 3.5 sacks one week after Williams held him sackless. Does it matter who he has faced as long as he is doing the job? And for the last 3 weeks, Daryl has been doing an outstanding job.

Why do people have to qualify success? Why can't success just be success?

People complain we need to upgrade the T positions. Williams comes in and finally makes that RT position his, and folks are still not willing to give him his due.

I'm willing.

I think the problem is that you have some on here who've believed he was an automatic all pro quality starter the moment he was drafted rather than a college kid who'd need time to transition to the pro game (kind of like 90% of the other college kids who get drafted or signed).

More folks need to read Ryan Kalil's book.

Williams looked like he didn't have a clue in his first start, which is pretty much what any fourth round pick making his first start in the NFL is probably going to look like.

Since then, I've seen him make progress, which is also what a guy who gets more reps is probably (hopefully) going to do.

Is he ready to start full time?  I'm iffy, but I wouldn't scream if it happened. I've long been of the belief that Remmers is better suited to be a utility backup than a full time starter but we haven't had a better starter available.  If Williams can get to that point, good.

Now, go in with a realistic understanding that his weaknesses aren't the same as the ones Remmers has, but he'll have em.  Same as the young DBs, he's going to make the kind of mistakes a young player makes and if you want to start him, you have to accept that.

They stuck Daryl at LT, which is not his natural position. So him not doing well, was almost a given.

The last 3 games at RT Williams has played very well. He has picked up blitzers, he has worked well in tandem with Trai, he is not making penalties or stupid mistakes. All in all, he appears to have finally taken over.

I mean, 3 games into your 2nd year does not seem that long of a time for a 4th rounder to grow into a good RT. It makes us better, it is one less position we have to plan for, and dammmm the kid looks good.

His first start was at right tackle, but other than that I can buy in.  Probably not quite as enthusiastically, but yeah.

Came in for Remmers and did not do well, ah yeah, I remember. Then they tried him at LT, and that didn't go well either. I think that is when most folks gave up on him.

But if he continues his play of late? One less position we need to address. It make our Oline that much better. And by George, it is a positive in a season filled with negatives.

1st and goal at the 2 against TB. Remmers false start, 1st and goal at the 7. 6yd run to the 1, holding Remmers, 1st and goal form the 17. 2nd and goal from the 11, false start Remmers, 2nd and goal from the 16. Next play, TD Olsen.

We still scored, but  man did Remmers make it difficult on us.

I don't think Daryl has a penalty. I credited him with a sack, but it was on a play where Dickson had a LB on a blitz, and Daryl did not get there in time to stop the sack. Other than that, no sacks allowed. As a whole, he has given up very few pressures, and has played well in the run game.

No way Remmers goes back to RT when Oher gets back. Remmers goes back to being depth, where he belongs.

The penalties are HUGE and Williams is not getting any. How many does he have compared to Remmers since he has been starting? A clear strength he has over him already.

    • I thought we were going to do it this year with Jenkins
    • I don't think the Jags are picking ahead of us anyways, at least not if Lawrence plays the rest of the year (or most of it). Here are the very winnable games left for the rest of the teams ahead of us in the draft right now... Jags (2 wins) - Titans x2, Raiders, Jets, Colts Giants (2 wins) - Cowboys, Saints, Colts Titans (2 wins) - Jags x2, Colts Browns (2 wins) - Saints, (Dolphins if they sit Tua as it's 2nd to last game) Raiders (2 wins) - Jags, Saints Patriots (3 wins) - Colts, Rams (it's home this week, 1pm game, Rams on short week) Saints (3 wins) - Browns, Giants, Raiders Jets (3 wins) - Colts, Jags, (also Dolphins last week if no Tua) The Patriots are the only team there that doesn't play another one of these teams, and the Browns and Jets are the only others that don't play at least 2 of them. We're not beating the Chiefs or Eagles.  We're not winning road games against the Cardinals or Falcons with them fighting for playoff positioning (assuming the Cardinals aren't locked into their place by week 17).  I also, personally don't think we're beating the Bucs in either game. Which just leaves the Cowboys, we lose that game and we're picking Top 3 or 4 at worst, still a legit shot at #1 because as of right now, the Jags are the only 2 loss team that we'd lose the SOS tiebreaker to. Even if we beat the Cowboys, with how many times all those teams play each other, or have other winnable games, I think we still end up 4-6. Yea, if we end up beating the Bucs or have another surprise upset too, it will end up dropping us further back to the 10-12 range Of these teams, the Titans, Browns, Patriots, and Raiders are the only ones I think would consider WR.  The Raiders would prefer a QB, the Browns and Titans also could go QB if they end up that high.  I'm hoping if the Patriots end up above us, they go OL to protect Maye, that could come down to if they're able to find a good LT in free agency before the draft. But the Patriots does feel like fate as both Gronkowski and Bruschi are two of the best Wildcats of all times who then ended up Patriots legends.
    • yeah Frazier was my dude. strong nasty, technical C. lots of playing time. but got a RB for a few games this year and 3 mnore years after. oh and signed a RB long term this year too. brooks got to be damn good for that to be worth it now. and while i think he can be a bellcow, it make investing in all the RBs vs other area an issue. we have one of the better lines atm. if it was frazier at C, my goodness we would be set for a long while. this year has a 2 OC im looking at Jake Majors , and Bryce Foster (massive, nasty streak, really want)
