PFF with the right prediction; predicted our secondary to be last in the Preseason. We're dead last right now as well.

Kurt Coleman was never a franchise or foundation piece. He will never be that piece to a secondary. He is a very good complimentary player. A side kick.

A secondary does not rely on just one player to carry it.

A secondary relies on the CB to inform the FS on what he is going to do and the FS must respond accordingly in a split second. Communication is key. The good secondaries have CBs and a FS who can signal while in coverage with a move or a hand gesture to counter a route or a rotate in the secondary. If the CB does not communicate or hesitates, then the FS is hung out to dry and has to guess where he needs to be during a play.

Norman and Coleman clicked with Norman controling the secondary, and Coleman following his lead. Norman on his own with a rookie safety (unless he has a high football IQ) or Coleman on his own with rookie CBs will struggle. When a team finds a CB/FS combo they need to sign both for the same length contracts, or they need to let them go and try to find another pair that works. Giving Coleman a contract without Norman tied to him was a mistake.

The other problem is they moved Coleman to SS. Coleman is a FS who succeeds at playing deep centerfield. He is weak as a SS when it comes to tackling, getting off blocks, reading the play inside the box, and pursuit angles. This was apparent from his play last season when he was clost to the LoS.

Do you ever get tired of typing so much bullshit constantly? It's funny that when we start off poorly, you're in every thread going crazy. Didn't see your shtick too much last year though.

Now I could be wrong, cuz well, according to the wife it is a normal occurrence, but...I feel this is only half the rant. Is there more you would like to say? If so, pray continue. This was gold I tell ya, gold.

There really isn't much more to him though

What I don't understand is why Coleman has been so bad. It isn't just rookies screwing up out their. Kurt is the vet leader, highest paid guy back there and he looks like Haruki Nakamura half the time.

Coelman was never that good to begin with, go look at his Eagles tape, he was awful. Both the Chiefs and Vikings didn't want him.

https://www.profootballfocus.com/pro-ranking-all-32-nfl-secondaries-entering-week-7/

32. Carolina Panthers (32)
Current nickel package: CB Daryl Worley, CB Zack Sanchez, SCB Robert McClain, S Kurt Coleman, S Tre Boston

Unsurprisingly, the Panthers stay in the bottom spot of the rankings. Letting Josh Norman walk has proven to be too much for the secondary to overcome. It has gotten so bad that they decided to cut Bené Benwikere after he surrendered a whopping 228 receiving yards to Atlanta. Rookie Zach Sanchez was given a starting opportunity this past week, only to give up 183 yards and two touchdowns to the Saints. Even Kurt Coleman, who finished last season as the 17th-highet-graded safety, has dropped all the way to 75th in that regard this year.

Good news of all this.  It can't get much worse.

Good job Gettlemoron, you really know what you're doing.

Has there been a Bill Cosby event between you and Gettleman? It seems like you are obsessed with the man

and people are obsessed with defending him to no end. That fat man deserves all the hate of the Panthers fan!!!

Come on man, he brought our team back from the pits of the Jimmy Clausen era. Sure this off-season he screwed up big time, but there is no reason to call for his job. You do realize how rare a change in GM is in the NFL right?

He didnt bring back from pits of Jimmy Clausen era half of the work was done by Hurney & Ron. Hell he cam to a team OROY, DROY, pro bowl RB, C, LB, etc etc. Talent wise this roster was good he just had to plug in parts.  Remember hardest part of being a GM is finding a franchise QB.

Time makes the past that much sweeter. I think this fan base is delusional in thinking Hurney is the reason for all of our success.

Dude nobody said he he was all of our success but he did have a good amount of role but let's put it this way ppl on board claims that D.G.  Is the sole reason for our turnaround. Yes he fixed a lot of the cap isssue but he inherited plenty of talented core players to work around with.

On the flip side he also inherited a team with a horde of subpar players that out numbered the talented ones by a country mile thanks to the former administration.  It's not easy to upgrade that when your in debt out the ass and a fuged up set of books to balance.

You can't expect more than what you've seen from Dave if you're a reasonable person.  The entire team caught lightening in a bottle last year with what they fielded.   A lot of the aging vets either retired or were not resigned and not a single person on this forum thought that was a problem at the time.  Hindsight is 50/50.

When i look at this team I only see 4 or 5 core players locked in on this team at the moment.  That would be Cam, Luke, Greg, Thomas, Star and Curt ( I'm not as sold on this one ).   KK better step it up if he wants to get the money here.

There's another wave of aging and decling vets to make a decision on.  Kalil needs a future replacement, Oher and Remmers need replacing, Stew needs a successer, and Dixson as well.   There's a lot of positions that need upgraded and a decision on who or what position you're going to invest your capital in will ultimately decide the fate of the team.

If you go FA will you have the money to keep your select few core guys and add a couple more peices?  Plus rededicate the majority of the cap to establish the core players you value most without pissing off players, agents and fans.   Not likely.

If I were a betting man I would say there are quite a few players and coaches auditioning for a paycheck when the dust settles.  Relax, it will shake itself out.

Dude idk what your talking about D.G. received probably one of the more talent core especially in key position . Franchise QB, LB, DE, CB most new GM's dont even start with this kind of talent & every G.M. faces subpar plalyer hence they where hired but D.G. basically recieved gift from football Gods. A lot of those aging vets where foreced to retire or he didn't try to explore a reasonable deals that could have contributed for 1-3 years aka Allen, Peanut, Harper, Smith,  etc which was his own doing mainly to ego issue. Also if you want replace aging vets you invest in draft couple of years ahead but he seemed to focus on areas of strength instead. We could have drafted a C, Tackle etc that would have been ready to take over the duties &  of course he let go of players that could be part of the team for several years due to ego again aka Norman, Bene, Munnerlyn, Gross.

Draft is your best safeguard against the cap for replacement but D.G. doesn't know how build a balanced team.  Relax coaches & players will save this season. D.G. should go this year or next.

Core Players:

Cam

Luke

Olsen

Star /KK

KB

Turner / Norwell

Bradberry
