Seems that one of our problems has been focusing on the playoffs, instead of the game at hand...

It is damage control.

I am not sure when Rivera realized that Gettleman led him hand in hand to career suicide, but he knows it now and is trying to save himself by doing anything to inspire the team. Rivera should have realized this from day one of the off season. Gettleman has a penchant for projects at the expense of the team.

He knows that the vets are upset with the moves made to weaken the team, and the fact the players gave the benefit to the coaches to lead them through it compounds the distress.

This goes up there with the "Why won't they tell us about Luke's concussion???" ordeal last season on the "You need to step away from the conspiracy theories" scale. There is so much supposition and suppression of information herein that Oliver Stone might option this for a movie next year.

"... Gettleman led him hand in hand to career suicide..."

Oh my, what purple prose. More likely it's just a football team came out flat as a pancake after a long season, got hit with key injuries and other teams got to see the blueprint on how to pick apart our defense.

The simplest answer is usually the right one. And Gettleman going from genius Godfather to drooling idiot in just a few short months just doesn't ring true.

We play a different schedule this year. Last year teams were not "gunning" for us until the season was half way over. This year teams are coming at us from the start. Or were coming at us, they might feel sorry for us by now. he he

I am sorry, but I just have a hard time thinking that players who have worked their butts off to become an NFL player, would all of a sudden decide not to put the work in. I just don't see it with this team.

Under that same logic, it's hard to think of players working their butts off to make it to the NFL, to play their best only against teams that are successful.

If guys can play "up" to their competition (gunning for us), they can certainly play "down" if they believe they have "made it."

Try this exercise. Does not have to be the Panthers.

Team A is competitive with the top level teams in the NFL.

Team A just went to the SB with a 16-0 record.

Team A has one of if not the best defenses in the NFL with impact players at every level of the defense.

Team A has opted to stock the defense with rookies.

Teams stocked with rookies on defense struggle to win in the playoffs if they even get to the playoffs.

A rookie DB takes 3 years minimum to become competitive on a playoff level.

SB and conference championship losing coaches who do not win or stay competitive the following 2 seasons get fired. If the team misses the playoffs with a losing record of 6 wins or less, or a last place finish in division, the HC is gone and never heard from again.

Occasionally, they will get a shot with a desperate perennial loser like John Fox or Rex Ryan. The others from the past several season include Jim Harbaugh, Jim Caldwell, Ken Whisenhunt, Mike Smith, Lovie Smith, and Brad Childress.

That would add up to career suicide.

Wow, slow down. I made a joke. Hence the "he he".

You hear of teams playing down to their competition all the time. You also hear of teams playing above their heads to beat a team they shouldn't have. Yeah, that is true.

What I said was; I just don't believe THIS team is just going through the motions. High character players don't lay down. This team is loaded with high character players. So thinking they are still practicing, and playing, to their best should be taken as pretty much a give. But hey, maybe that's just me.

Exactly. I think the team thought they could steamroll again. Not taking into account the teams on the schedule had 6 months to look at last year's team and prepare.

I'm still amazed that this really could be a possibility.

I agree..I don't  think KK stop working, but the coaches just did not prepare the team the way they should have..moves should have been made..if gettleman had anykind of inkling that he was not going to sign norman he should have at least made sure the dline had some stunners and depth ... knowing he was not going to place rwal value in free agency for a CB position at least spend money on what you value..you kept CJ and that was ok for depth but should not have put all your faith in him and Ealy especially when it was the SB that they played with house money.. I blamed the coaches on this debacle..All evidence was there as to what needed to take place..They needed to win the game(Denver). Gettle hurt the team instead of improving the team in so many ways..Norman, teddy williams, Remmers, Tolbert, Harper, CJ was not that bad but need some new cars on the race track. Evaluater of talent where? If he was good he would have gotten rid of Remmers, Tolbert, Teddy Williams. All 3 were the cause for the lose in the SB and weaklinks throughout the year and here we are another year and they are still taking up roster spots....if you were willing to let Norman go so easily who was a shut down corner why in the world are you still holding on to them anyone with eyes can see they are not meant to be starters or even bench warmers.  Coaching well we know where that goes you had to know that teams got film and study what you did to be successful last year how in the world did you not add and mix up some things during the summer...you had to know they were going to be keying in on KK...These coaches don't  have preparation nor adjustment abilities they just go with the plan they have until the end. They gone do what they gone do even tho the plan his defeated before it is even laid out...Everybody know what you gone do!

Everyone has a great valid point on this thread. Its hard to nail down one thing, but for sure the tape is out there on how to beat us. One thing I think that has gotten better on a top to bottom is NFL coaching, most teams have a great staff. If we get exposed by Jeff Fisher in LA that might be the final straw for me not blaming our coaches for not evolving.

I think its both of we aren't in kill mode this year and that we haven't took a step at all to progress from last year. Same plays, same things over and over. The media in 2016 is bigger than it ever has and will only get bigger to spread whatever talking heads want the average person to think. Most stories are about how close we are to being cancelled out for THE SEASON! The SEASON folks... not even half way through. So there is football left to play and we will see what this 2016 team is made of. Even if the reality is we just are not a good football team I pray for good health, and to see our guys have fun and compete together.

Well KK literally said he needed to "get his wind up" a week ago. He also made a statement acting like he just figured out teams were focusing on him.

I'm not going to say he hasn't  worked at all, but it seems like he certainly didn't push himself to get better. His work ethic was questionable coming out of college, so this wouldn't be completely out of character.

I don't think we need to worry about KK. Those reports out of college never mention that he played like 99% of the snaps at Perdue. You have to be in great shape to play that much. His work ethic was never a question to those around him. The Panthers did their homework.

I have heard that new players are always amazed at how hard the Panther players work. Allen even said he was always the first one in, the first day with the Panthers he wasn't even close. That told him he had made the right decision.

I saw an article last week where KK said we, as the whole team, just have to work harder to figure out how to win again. But at my age, I could be misremembering that. But then again, I could be right.
