Rivera using 2015 Chiefs as inspiration...

As the Panthers enter their bye week at 1-5, head coach Ron Rivera is drawing inspiration from a team that was in the same predicament last year.

“We’ve got an opportunity to do something that was done last year,” Rivera said after Carolina wrapped up its only practice of the week. “A team started 1-5 and came back and put themselves in position.”

That team was the Kansas City Chiefs, led by Rivera’s good friend and former colleague Andy Reid. The Chiefs won their first game then lost five straight before rattling off 10 consecutive wins.

They joined the 1970 Cincinnati Bengals as the only teams to start a season 1-5 and make the playoffs.

“That’s what we’re working towards,” said Rivera, who hasn’t reached out to Reid because the two teams play each other in Week 10. “We’ll see what happens.”

Chiefs defense were playing way better than ours when they were 1-5. Also, as far as the division goes, I believe they had only played 1 division rival up until that point. We're already down 0-3 in the division. I mean, I get wanting to use that as inspiration, but A LOT has to bounce the right way for us to go 10-0 down the stretch.

Well said. Our Offense can put a whoopin' on almost anyone. So we got that going for us.

But the albatross around our neck is that Defense of ours. Or at least as it is right now. Now if, with some luck, Bradberry returns, and continues to play well for a rookie. And Johnson somehow makes us forget about Bene. Then maybe our D can improve a little. And hey, maybe Butler comes back and gives the Dline a boost of energy?

All we need is a D that can stop you enough to make you worry. A middle of the road D could make us dangerous. Unfortunately, being dangerous isn't going to mean much this year. But hey, we can take that momentum into next year. Right?

But don't hold your breath for the playoffs. That would just take to much stuff going our way. Until math gets involved, there is still a chance.

Good point about the Divisional loses this year. That is going to be tough to overcome.

Oh, and welcome to the Huddle. Don't be skeered, and let your voice be hear.
