This Season May Actually Be A Blessing In Disguise

I'm sorry OP I can't buy it.  The end goal is to win the Superbowl every year. You can't have such a long term plan when the team we have now is capable or was capable of repeating a Superbowl appearance.

It's not like our cap situation was so dreadful. We already had some of the best cap room in the league   Moves could have been made.

The goal is to win. Not save the most money. The way OT, DE and CB have not been addressed is damn near shameful.

Great post Saca. Maybe it's the optimist in me but that's how I see it as well.

Fans understandably get impatient but the long view is what's important in my eyes. We are taking our lumps this year but hopefully learning lessons. I believe we can make it to the big show again just going to take some patience to work our  way back up.

DG or Horsemouth Elway has a SB as acting GM? That sums it up! This team was rebuilding when Cam got here and we are still rebuilding..most of the solid pieces were here when DG got here all he had to do was build around it sustitute like most GMs do when handed important pieces already in place not gut it up start from scratch..we are literally now hurting in several different places on both sides of the ball..olsen, khalil, TD, Ginn, are not going to play forever..we dont even have decent starting tackles not to mention depth..been saying build chemistry for 6 years every since Cam got here.. all we needed was to get some depth and groom them..just in case we lost one key person..but because DG drafts best player available there are some many holes to fill that its almost impossible to fill...DG f-UP.

Even if last season was ahead of schedule, and I tend to agree the offense played above their collective talent level, that still doesn't excuse DG's offseason and the product the Panthers have on the field right now (especially on D).  You just can't spin it any other way than he fuged up big.

pie for positivity. this season is bullshit, and gettleman is largely to blame, but people who can look-long term can definitely take positives out of this dumpster fire.

but i still haven't stopped holding out hope for a post-bye streak on a fading division.

I can't argue the fact that it does look bad right now. I personally wont judge the season until it's over and I've had time to look back on what took place. I guess I just have some faith. Sure, I could be wrong so don't be inserting facts and stomping my dreams. Ha

Seriously though, it is a little depressing to see so many fans lose their minds when things aren't going well. The worst thing to do in times of turmoil is start pointing fingers at each other. fug that. I have to bring some positive vibes even if it turns out to be misguided.

At least at this point, the organization has earned the benifit of the doubt from me.

We just wasted one year of Luke and Cam's prime

As I said, would you rather just waste one year, or waste multiple of his future years of his prime? Like I said, I doubt anyone figured we'd regresd this much, but I think not spending much this offseason was a good love. Sets up for having enough money to spend next offseason on our players and (hopefully) some quality FAs

The reality is that being a good football team is hard, and we've gotten spoiled for a few years.

I think the OP's assessment is correct, let's look at the future and long term viability of the Panthers versus a one year go for broke, only to possibly have that victory stolen away by injury, a missed opportunity, or a bad call.

I'm going to say something controversial:  building for a single shot is bad.  Maybe we did go out and overspend on FAs because we were so close in 2015.  They come in, preseason looks good, but the team has zero chemistry with all the egos and stuff.  (if you want to start on the "we have the leadership" then explain where that leadership is now).  What if we over spent and were in the same boat?  Then next year, we're dealing with several premier FAs who are in their late 20s, and might not be worth the money?

So, as I've said before (and I'm far from the only one, but hey, my BS post): we struck out this offseason.  We thought a lot of things would go differently, but they did not.  We just have to hunker down for this season, and use it as an important lesson to the entire team.  Try to make the best of it, but for 2017, we have to come in more focused, with more competition, and a lot more resilience.

Being successful in football is not easy.  Sometimes you have the luck (Patriots) of coaching, players and arguably the best QB of all time.  Or everything is off by just enough to be a real problem for the season.
