Five Reasons the Panthers Are 1-5

The biggest reason the Panthers are 1-5 is because after going 15-1 Gentleman began to over value the talent on the roster.  CJ, Tolbert, Remmers, Oher, Coleman, etc.  He believed the players on the roster had more talent than they have shown.  While the rest of the league improved, we maintained the status quo.  Even regressed at CB and DE.

Let's hope this is a serious learning experience.

Are you an idiot or do you really believe that? If you were here for FA the last two years it's been a poo show and we have had no money. The past 3 years Dave has drafted 7 starters and 2 udfa starters. It's not over value,  it's price point. Yet Ron has not won back to back seasons with two GMs and his entire coaching staff intact.

Now tell me who is failing there.

I absolutely believe that.  Gettleman's hubris is a large contributing factor to the declining talent on this team.  I'm not saying he is a bad GM.  Actually, I believe he is one of the top GMs in the league.  I am saying that, after going 15-1, he had more faith in his coaches and players than was warranted.  He did not make the necessary offseason moves because he believed the talent was already on the roster.  We lost veteran leadership that has yet to manifest itself in our younger core.

There is no declining talent... Really I saw this after we lost the SB. The only way you were going to fix what happened there was to bring in a top 10 DE and RT while keeping your Top 5 CB and DT.  We didn't have the money or draft picks to do that. Also how do we have declining talent when Dave not only has given us 8 starters but two udfa starters in the draft. That's not declining from what we had. Fact is you can blame him all you want but he stepped into a situation where a team was cash strapped and he was not allowed to make any coaching changes. How can you expect more than what he has given you?

The defense has been so awful I have to force myself to watch the game.

Start of Saints game on D: pass - first down, pass - first down, pass - first down, pass - TOUCHDOWN. Just straight and easy. No resistance whatsoever. Nothing is worse in sports than **** defense.

Season in a nutshell.

IMO, Gman did really well his first three years. But I do question the Josh situation. Part of me blames Josh for not being more proactive, and part of me blames Gman for being a bit reactionary. I truly wish the two sides would have sat down and hashed this all out. Maybe Josh wanted more than we could spend? Maybe Josh would have taken less, if Gman would have handled it differently? Having Josh would help. But hey, water and bridges, and all that.

By the end of the year. Gman, and Ron, will have a good grasp on where we are. We have money to spend, all our draft picks, plus a comp 3rd. Minus a 7 I believe. My point being. This year may suck, but we are not that far from be very good again. We just have to hope Gman, and Ron, can get us what we need this off-season.

If things work out for us. The kids will take over the CB position. And Williams will own RT. We get a legit LT, a real SS, and DE help in either FA, or the draft. And we are golden. I tell ya, golden.

All we have to do is suffer through this year. Watch the kids grow, and enjoy any and all successes.

The Josh situation is a tough one just like the Hardy situation was but different. We have home grown two top 5 players only to cut them. We also have KK looming as well and we will see about that one. Imo Josh might have inflamed Richardson to the point of rash decision or maybe Dave. Not really sure which but it was clear Norman was a problem in someones eyes. I think the Panthers are complex because of JR, Ron, and Dave. All have a plan but I'm not sure it's the same one.

Like valuing Lee, Gano, and Soliai ($10m) more than a 4th round pick, Josh Norman, Kyle Love, a vet kicker like Connor Barth, and a young punter like Riley Dixon?

I am pretty sure that Gman and Ron are on the same page, or close to it anyways. And I am also pretty sure that Dave and JR are on the same page, or close to it. So to me, the powers that be, are all pretty close as it regards that there plan.

Josh? Now that is a different story. I would bet that almost everyone has their own slant on what truly happened. So I am not sure we will ever really get the whole story. Whether is was money, or something else, we do miss Josh. Too bad that one didn't work out.

Yupperz, we have some contracts coming up. KK, Stah, Trai, and Norwell are the most notable, and most expensive. But we still have KB, Shaq, and maybe Ealy who will need some attention. Or even Funchess, and now Williams may take that next step and need to be taken care of.

By the time you get all those worked out, it is time to start worrying over the newer kids. Butler and Bradberry from this year, and then the kids we bring in next year, so the roller coaster never stops.

So yeah, we have plenty of contracts coming up. But with luck, we are really only a LT, SS, and DE from being right back where we want to be. So we are still close, we just have to endure this year to get back at it.
