Article (Bill Voth): Who Saw This Coming? Pretty Much Everyone

It seems that Dave didn't have any problems with agents during negotiations up until Josh's agent, right?   We all know the story behind that so I fail to see the worry here?   The man was asked a question about the ordeal with Josh's agent while he was sitting on a golf cart at training camp and he answered honestly.  I remember the entire interview and the full context of that statement is being exaggerated here me thinks.  At least I didn't take it that way.

Josh's boy blew it for him here and that's on him.   He was never going to be paid what he wanted here so it's better to just rip the bandaid off and move on.  The only thing that's debatable is who is going to take the heat for it going south the way it has.

My guess is there is beginning to be a rift in the relationship between old Dave and Ron if this season turns out to be worse than what it is so far.  If that's even possible?   Someone is going to have to answer for this when it's all said and done.

You mean to tell me that our coaches are not giving input on personnel moves or draft picks..Is Dave putting the big draft board together himself... the final decision may be Dave's  but i got to believe the coaches are giving insight as well..what the world are workouts for..Coaches and Dave are responsible for this poo.  Yes players have to execute but you picked these players..everybody has known Remmers sucked, Tolbert is useless, Ginn has butterfinger hands, CJ has lost it since the legwhip, ..you claim you watch film what the hell do they see..every year we keep the ones that need to go..let go of the ones that need to stay, they go and produce in other places..look at gary barnage TE..we didn't even use him properly... Ron and Dave love projects not things that obviously work..you can see it in personel and in play calling ..people who look good get cut without even giving them a chance..byrd.. look at funchess all of them were saying he had progress tremendously in the off season..barely gets game time or plays designed f po r him..play calls that work they stop using..The whole coaching staff and front office needs to go..because no one holds any decision maker accountable within the chain. Even JR.

Lol at least you can admit it. You blend right in with this instant gratification society.

If you are steady building for the future you never get the now...by the time one position that is good now will be bad for the future picks and you are just sending a revolving door..at some point you have to look at your present and see that you have enough pieces to make that run and draft or sign FAs to assist the now..That is what Denver did..they knew they had the Offense and a couple of good defensive players and added to it..they seized the moment..We gutted ours..We do not know how  Cam and luke will be in 3yrs .When you have the main pieces you added to them not subtract..should have retained Norman drafted or signed OT, DE, CB DB TE..Now we are in the what if mode.. at least if you kept norman and did the above you could say you tried to put the best players on the field to win the SB. You could released Norman following year and gave the rookie a yr of understudy  .Instead you have wasted the talent that is here. TD Kahil can go ahead and retire this team will not win a SB no time in their career under this regime.

Well Gettlemen has had a way to making guys dislike him.  Which is new thing here.  I mean Gross eventually got to the point he could joke about it but we got signs pretty early on.....that could point to some issues Dave has.

I think it could impact choice FAs coming here.  If Dave is going to try to nickel and dime everyone showing them he is the man...they will take money elsewhere

This.

Seriously, Gettleman better thank sweet jesus that he's made so many decent moves before this season because by all accounts he's failed so hard on the personel decisions going into the season that if he had been a GM for 80% of the teams in the NFL, his ass would be fired today.  Put in perspective, I went searching for a team that started as awful as we have following a superbowl run and the only team that I've found that is in the same situation...2004 Carolina Panthers who started 1-7.

the 1-7 team also had major injury issues, like Steve Smith in his prime going down in the opener. This team is a bigger disappointment

There were indications that he was rubbing all of them wrong but the excuse was that we were cap strapped and couldnt pay more than we did so he got a pass.  Last year he paid big time for Cam and Luke and the thought was that he would stop shopping in the bargain basement and move up to at least Target or Walmart.  Then he let Norman go, doesnt sign KK and thinks he can replace both with rookies and Jags.  In the past that actually worked and Gettleman got the big head. This year it has blown up in his face. I dont know about anyone answering for it so much as changing his strategy and admitting that he was wrong and retaining more core players. The coaches cant handle injuries or win consistency if they dont have good players up and down the roster.  This year we dont have 11 guys on both sides of the ball who are even starter material let alone the depth to handle any injuries.

Gettleman hasn't drafted well in general, just got by with some low cost free agents. Plus coaching is poor especially on defense. Why play cover 2 with no pass rush, just like play pitch and catch in the back yard. Try mixing up or something, same poor coaching same results.

I don't get his "strategy" of spending first round picks on guys to be backups.  I mean his last 2 were not selected with he intention that they would be starters any time soon....which is kind of crazy in back to back drafts.  That is my only draft issue....that and this past one where he went overboard on need trying to make up for Norman fiasco.

defensive coaching isn't the issue.  Getting away from cover 3 just means our DBs would be torched even easier.  More big plays.  Can't coach around all talent issues in the NFL...sometimes it is just a talent issue

Huh?

No you can't only have legit talent at DT and LB and be weak everywhere else.  Impossible to stop NFL teams.

Draft position is irrelevant.  We are talking 2016 talent/ability.

Huh? What are you talking about ? We have talent on the defense outside of the DT and LB position. How can you judge talent/ability when our players are not motivated under Ron ? How can you judge talent/ability when Ron and his coaching staff does not adjust ? When you do not adjust you put your players in a position to fail. It  took a 1 and 5 start for him to admit he need to look around the NFL to adjust.   Draft position is irrelevant ? So why are you and bunch of other people on this board complain every time we draft a DT or LB and draft them high. We should be able to fill our needs drafting in the 5 to the 7 by that logic.  If Draft position is irrelevant why do panthers fan and fans of the NFL want their team to draft for need in the 1st instead of the the 7th    Draft position is not an indicator on how a prospect will do in the NFL but it is a indicator of talent.  Draft position is relevant.

There are multiple factors as to why these things didn't happen. Anyone can point fingers after the fact, but think about the reasons they didn't bring more FA's in. Also I'm curious which position groups are going to regress next year?

What are you talking about.  Name the talent we have outside of DT and LB.

Ron Rivera has proven beyond a reasonable doubt he motivates his team and his team plays for him....check literally EVERY season his team overcomes and makes a late run. Issue isn't Ron.  Talent driven league and his team severely lacks competitive talent on too many key defensive spots right now.  Rivera has adjusted every season in Carolina outside the 15-1 season.

When you have been in the NFL for 5-10 years...your draft position is irrelevant.  When you have been in the NFL less than 5 years...it doesn't mean that much either once you get on a field.
