Whose job is more in jeopardy? Rivera's or Gettleman's?

I have been a huge supporter of 'The Dave' from the beginning. This off season was the absolute worst in franchise history considering how close we were. I sure wish Bellicheat was available. I believe Ron is at greater risk. That being said. Neither is going anywhere this season. It would happen next season if one is to be fired.

GMs and head coaches going 4-12 one season removed from the Super Bowl is without precedent though.

Are you certain that we will get to 4-12? I'm not. Who on our schedule that's left to play can we confidently say we will beat. I say nobody. We might possibly beat NO and TB. Even those games are huge question marks with this lack of pass rush and porous secondary. Simply, we will be outscored week in and week out. Even when Cam leads us to 38 points we will likely give up 41. The formula to beat us is out. Pass, pass and pass, and of course hit Cam as often and as hard as possible.

A team with a top 5 defense spent it's first four draft picks on defensive players and became a bottom five defense. I blame Gettleman. I don't blame Rivera for the poor play from our defensive backs. I might blame the lack of pass rush on coaching because the personnel is the same (though they aren't helped by the DB's).

If Rivera had a decent special teams coach and a conservative GM who re-signs Norman and signs a small-money vet CB (like Boykin?????)  then we would be at the top of the division.

I don't like Shula, but let's be honest, offense has not been the problem. A defense that can hold a passer to under 400 yards has.

It would not shock me even a little bit if Gettleman decides to move on from Cam as QB.

He's already demonstrated that he feels threatened by players with great star power, and given how integrated Cam and the coaching staff are with one another, it would be difficult to move on from them.  What happens when the day comes when Gettleman needs another scapegoat to detract from the possibility that he may be a source of blame for the team's problems, and he can't do away with the coaches because of how tethered they and our QB are to one another?

Gettleman has demonstrated that nothing-absolutey nothing-is bigger than his own legacy or ambitions.

THIS had not occurred to me.... holy poo.

Correct.

GMs and Head Coach's one season removed from Superbowl are not in danger.

There are several players that are, however.

Unless you want to win. Like in Denver. Knowing JR though we will go though 2 more poo seasons to even be close to firing either one.

    • I'd give it a C mainly because of Brooks.  If we just didn't have a 2nd I'd argue B to B+ tbh. Brooks was a bad gamble, tho one that could still pay off long term. Yes XL only has 400 yards but... Look who is throwing him the ball. And I think he isn't a "true #1" but he's been able to consistently get open. Hands definitely need to be cleaned up.  But he should end the year with 500-600 yards. Like you said - Sanders looks great.  Get him a better QB / more time with a QB and I think he's gonna impress. We added a couple rotational players on D that have both made plays and show promise for the future from later rounds. So I'd say, Brooks really hurts this drafts grade. It'll be interesting to see how it progresses over the next 3 years. I've overall really liked Morgan's FA acquisitions, so...
    • Oh he would absolutely flourish. It’s the panthers way. It’s no different with coaches. Sometimes they reach their expiration date, go somewhere else, and find new success.  Similarly to Burns, how long to wait for the light to finally turn on?  Market forces will demand a salary that the panthers can not responsibly match. Sliding him to guard will fit his skill set better, but he has played LT for 3 years. He will receive offers from other teams wanting to pay him LT money.  At guard, he won’t start with what they have paid Hunt and Lewis. Center then?? Dunno. Maybe? He will become a backup by default once they draft their stud LT. I doubt Dan just stands pat. That’s not his MO.  So where does this put him? Can you match what other teams will offer for a backup LT/guard? Do you dish out franchise LT $ on a guy who still needs significant improvement in pass protection. This team will be DOA in the playoffs with the very first team who has a formidable speed rusher. What if he has hit his ceiling in pass protection already and they sign him long term? It’s a big gamble either way.
    • We're in a great position to see just how big of a misstep it would be, having made so many ourselves
