What should we do with the No. 1 pick?

Draft 3 OT and trade up for a DE, the Gettleman way of drafting.

Dont forget, he has to publicly humiliate and release a high profile, super talented player we took years to develop for no compensation,  then brag about it.  Only then will the gettleman offseason regimen be complete.

Panthers Release Luke Kuechly for 'New Direction'

By Joe Person
The Charlotte Observer

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Dave Gettleman's gambling habit may be limited to football, but they're definitely a habit. And after Gettleman released All-Pro linebacker Luke Kuechly in a surprise move Tuesday, the Panthers' general manager said the team needed a new direction.

"Look, we didn't win as much as we wanted to and our defense wasn't up to par," said Gettleman of the Panthers' 1-15 record in 2016. "We felt like we needed to move in a new direction."

Ignoring glaring needs at offensive line, cornerback, secondary and now linebacker, Gettleman and company passed up a trade -- and Clemson quarterback DeShaun Watson -- to spend the top pick in April's draft on little-known running back Lawrence Jones of Morehead State.

People usually get upset over threads like this, but it's becoming a real possibility and having the #1 pick could be very beneficial.  I personally would trade away the #1 pick, but preferably to a team who also has a top 5 1st round draft pick. Watching Derek Barnett yesterday against Alabama was impressive.  He was just owning Cam Robinson who's the #1 OT in the draft.

DeShaun Watson would make for an elite backup, but we could also net quite a few draft busts picks for him -- assuming he's the top guy once we're on the clock after Week 17.

To shore up the pass blocking, we could grab another linebacker at No. 1. Lots of options.

Linebacker at #1. God I hope that's sarcasm. Lol. But with the Panthers u never know.

Why? We haven't taken an OL or pass rusher high since he's been our GM despite obvious needs. That what I HOPE we do with our 1st round pick, but I don't have any real confidence that'll actually happen.

Because OL is too damn risky early in the draft. Name all the pro bowl tackles taken since 2010. If it's Tony Bosseli or Anthony friggin Munoz then fine. How often does that happen though?
