14 turnovers is the problem. Not Shula.

Regardless of how you feel about the play calling this season, the sole reason for our loses has been losing 14 possessions. You can't win when you are losing the turnover battle and that has nothing to do with Shula. That has literally everything to do with player execution. If our players are giving away opportunities we will lose. Simple as that.

We are dead last in the league for turnovers with 14. We are tied for second to last in turnover differential with -7.

If we can turn the ball over less and take it away more we will win. We led the league in takeaways last year. That has been the single biggest and most impactful difference between last season.

Don't get me wrong, Shula and the coaching is only half the problem. Our boys are committing stupid penalties, dropping passes, not executing, blowing assignments, etc. However, our coaching plays a factor in why our offense has been horrendous.

Completely agree. All the suck is feeding off each other.

I'm not happy with all of Shula's play calls.  I just think it's silly that he's getting the bulk of the blame for the reasons the OP stated.  This train can still get fixed as long as the players can hold onto the ball and not make stupid false starts/holds or any other stupid penalty.

    • Yeah and he succeeded at an even higher level in LA with an even better surrounding cast. Goff is a guy that isn't really able to dramatically elevate players around him but he can make a good situation even better. He is capable of that. Some QB's aren't. I am not sure Dak is able to do that and he is in a similar "class" as Goff, IMO.
    • i think i could handle that for a year. beyond that....i don't know.  back where we lived, when we had a few inches of snow, it might have been a couple feet because we weren't getting out and doing anything. i remember times where power would go out for days on end. we had propane and electric heat, depending on the floor. basement (had a couple bedrooms and a living room and kitchen down there) and main floor had gas logs. main floor gas logs was enough to take care of the upstairs, so we could stay warm and cook on the grill when we needed. we had a well so that was always an issue when the power went out. had to make sure tubs were filled with water for the toilets and we had gallons of water for drinking and cooking available. always had to make sure we were ready. that wasn't always the case. we had a couple moments where we were going through propane quickly and because we were dealing with the worst propane company in the world (amerigas) they wouldn't get out to put gas in our 900 gallon tank. made for some nerve racking moments.  i know y'all were probably a lot more able to handle that kind of thing, but after the little bit (comparatively) that we got here i just have no desire to get trapped again. maybe for a day or two a year get snowed in and i'm good.
    • I think he is just drawing a DC to them line and that's about as far as his thought process went. It makes almost no sense outside of that. Also, it doesn't make sense for Pittsburgh or Seattle at this juncture either.  I think our "veteran" pool is basically gonna be the Dalton/Flacco tier or the "pick your poison" options of young busts(Jones/Z. Wilson) or wild, TO prone gunslingers(Darnold/Winston/etc). We have the option to pursue I genuinely believe(depending on the way the rest of this season goes), we either draft a QB in the top 10 or resign Dalton. Outlier third option on taking one of the wild gunslingers that Dave feels like he can work with.
