Random thoughts -

Happy Friday!!

I haven't posted or contributed in a LONG time...content on being a lurker and enjoying everyone's thoughts and insight.  I have been stalkerish on our opponents websites and especially the NFC South as well and wanted to share just random thoughts...in no order.

Lots/tons/crZy amount of hate for our coaches and GM.  While I am in the crowd of 'why the heck is Shula still here' I get that making a change now doesn't make a lot of sense.  Our record and bye week?  My guess he is on the hot seat.  Lots of pros and cons for this guy but someone made a great post about it which sums him up entirely for me - NO changes at halftime.  We saw it all last year where every team comes out and destroys us because Shula has no clue on how to adjust at halftime.  I would love to be a fly on the wall in the locker room and know exactly WHAT is talked about.

For GM and Rivera - and Shula to be fair - they have forgotten more than I'll ever know about football.  I am a fan who just figured out cover 2, and now cover 4 (quarters) thanks to the Herd show yesterday.  I don't know what to know - I don't know what schemes or chess match is going on.  What I do know is that both Rivera and Gettleman has totally earned my trust.  I have complete faith in them and look forward to the adjustments they are making.  I've no idea why Byrd or Bene was let go - but I can believe Ron does.

The Norman Show - so I really don't know where you guys come out on this whole thing.  I think that many forgot we needed his money to sigh Short and that Norman was a product of the system.  Are we finding that 'guess' was wrong?  I still don't think so personally.  Short has disappointed but the defense really works as one.  Sacks and pressure occur when our DB's don't let their guys get open.  Our DB's can cover better if we get more pressure....I don't have the answers...but I am glad we are not on the hook for Norman.  I don't forget that Julio burned Norman last year for what...180 yards?  Sip that tea bruh.

Hindsight I know...but I really wished we had made him play his contract, used our first pick on Derrick Henry (s?) and then let CAP and Fozzy go.

The one area I do criticize Gettleman (s?) is no help on the O-line.  Exposed in the superbowl...I mean the writing was on the wall that teams are going to be coming.  I was talking to my buddy here at work (Redskins fan) and whining we don't have a tackle....his response?   "join the club".

True right?  and lets me wrap up by saying I LOVE our team - I would take Gettleman over ANY other GM out there.  I would take maybe 3-4 coaches over Ron and that's it....I'm grateful for what we HAVE.  When I think of other teams...we can always say "fire so and so" but who are you going to replace them with??

Oh - I forgot - do you guys know the NFC South really really hates us?  I mean talk about being in their heads.  Saints, Falcons, (Tampa Bay not so much) but their forums are filled with Panther and Cam hate.  Amusing mostly but sickening sometime (what they have wished on Cam is just wrong).  I still have respect for their teams.  Brees is a hall of famer and gutsy.  Ryan I haven't liked since the old 'get off my field' thing but I respect him and what he can / has done to us.  those fans though...I don't have much respect for.

Have a GREAT weekend!!  I think we CAN win on Sunday - like Zod said....87-82.  :)

Getty is a great GM, sometimes he out-thinks himself. Hopefully he learns from his mistakes and has a monster off-season.

Rivera is an above average coach, guys like and respect him. He doesn't do a great job of time management and I'm not sure why he keeps Shula around.

last year we were #1 in turnover margin with +20, averaging +1.25/game.  This year we are at the very bottom, only above the Jets, with -7, averaging -1.4/game.

We were tops in turnover margin last year, and we bottom in turnover margin this year.  We were top in the W/L last year and at the bottom this year.  If you want to know why we're losing, look no further than that.  If we're even in turnovers, we are likely +2 in wins right now.  If we are positive in turnovers, we likely only lose to Minnesota.

Blaming the GM for fielding 90% the same team that went to the superbowl is ridiculous.

While I think one could make an argument for all our woes I think you are correct.  While disappointed we haven't gotten as many turn overs give up so many on our side has killed us.  Outside of our new punter (yay Gettleman!) I am pointing fingers at special teams as well.

Where I blame Gettleman is that we've had the same weaknesses year in and year out.  Everyone knew OT and DE were going to be weak spots for us and we did nothing to address either. Meanwhile, we continue to make "luxury" 1st round picks for rotational players at deep positions like we're stacked at every position.

Now, if Short continues his disappearing act, then Butler may turn out to be a pick at a position of need.  Short is the individual player equivalent to the Panthers as a team.  Looked elite last season, looks unrecognizable this season.

Hes not great . Hes a good drafter and good at finding low level talent for cheap but he lacks in resigning players, cutting key players and hes way to cheap in freeagency. I understood we have bad cap but if he goes another offseason being cheap its going to be real bad for us.
