I thought D G had the right formula for this team, I was wrong. This season proves to me (and hopefully him), that you have to spend the dough and keep upgrading personal where needed. You also need a seasoned vet or two for the rookies to depend on for guidance.

I bought the bargain basement line when the money was not there, but to have and not to spend wisely to upgrade is wrong. Dave seems like a smart guy and after watching this shat storm on the field he sees the error in his ways.

One or two rookies mixed with vet talent (who can still play), is worth the investment. Kills me to see the Panthers in this shape and spiraling downward fast. We will see what the philosiphy will be next season......when there is actually players on the market worth signing.

If ever there were a time to go all in for a championship it was this year.  Instead we have lots of cap room and a 1-4 record.  Spending may not have fixed this teams issues but saving certainly hasn't.

How about not responding if this distubs you so much and let others who actually wish to have a discussion about it do so. Who the hell are you anyways to decide what any thread should be about. Only thing redundant is people like you with their smart ass comments.

So what .....you want to talk about Aleppo or the State of the Union? This is a football forum. I am not on here all day to follow every thread. I had an opinion and I wanted feedback.

I'm with you.  I had faith in Gettleman's judgement on the Norman situation at the time; even as weird as that whole scenario played out.  Hindsight has been very unkind to Gettleman (Norman best corner in football, our secondary the worst unit in football).  

It's one of those situations where, no matter how much good Gettleman might have done before, can be the one that defines him.  We will see how he goes about fixing this problem.  Will have to wait until the off-season to find out.

My best guess is that Gettleman spent a lot of time thinking about who on our team we want to resign, and i'm hoping he felt that the unused cap space from this year will allow us to do that.  We will see.

You also dont want him to just spend for the sake of spending.  Maybe there wasnt a FA out there that was either willing to come to us, a  good fit for us, or wasnt worth what he got paid elsewhere.  Patience is a virtue.

At 1-4, i'm not gonna sit here and say that we did all the right things with our spending, but saving our money for when he time is right might have been the logic.  It is fair to disagree with the decision, but maybe that helps people who dont understand the reasoning behind it.  With the cap, you have to take some chances on some positions, and we havent been very lucky.  Our schedule, missed field goals, injuries to our QB, RB, CB, and offensive line shuffling probably havent helped.  All of those things add up.  

What i will say is that we've had chances to win games that dont require us having Josh Norman in order to get it done.  We are not making a lot of the little plays we made last year, which covered a lot up.  I wish we had a DE that was more explosive off the edge and a solid CB at a fair price, but i cant name any off the top of my head that were available that i think would change our misfortune when you consider all of our missed opportunities across the board.
