Looking at starting DT options: Long term

Starting DTs on the FA or Trade blocks are always a bit of a worry. Rarely does a team let one get away unless there are problems, either physical or team chemistry. And it is really rare for a starting DT to flourish at their next team because of this.

Kris Jenkins (injury history and locker room issues) is one of the rare cases where it has worked out.

If you aren't drafting a guaranteed starter at DT, the best bet is to start watching for someone's super scrubs. It's like buying a used car -- you want one with low mileage, few if any dings, an engine that still rumbles and enough room to carry the whole family.

Kemo was a good example of that.

Avoid the big namers, try to draft a talent early (and the good ones really go quick) or pick up someone who is getting edged out on another team, but has some on field experience.

And remember, these are some big ol' boys, it costs a lot to grow them yourself -- time, energy and food in the cafeteria. Kinda like having pet Clydesdales.

To be honest I saw quite a bit out of Leonard I think if he can recoup from that injury I am confident he could start. He got the most constant pressure and penetration on D last week IMO. He has great potential.

You know, I was actually impressed by him also. I think has a good chance and being a starter.

1) Let Peppers go, his contract has crippled this teams ability to make any moves.

2) Build through the draft, our best d-line was built through the draft (Jenkins, Peppers and Rucker). We have good young talent at LB and defensive backfield. Yeah I know we don't have a first rounder.

3) The front office has to do a better job in the middle rounds of the draft. Bill Polian did a great job finding talented players in the middle and later rounds.

4) Go to a different scheme, our personnel doesnt match the scheme we are trying to run.
