What happened to Funchess?

GAME 2 - 49ers

IMAGE 1 - He torches the guy so much that in the frame that screenshoted, he not even turned the head yet. Newton threw to Fozzy.

IMAGE 2 - Again, he burns the CB. Keep in mind, if the receiver is in the same step as the cb, the receiver is winning. Newton threw to Olsen.

IMAGE 3 - He find the hole in zone coverage. Newton threw to Ginn.

IMAGE 4 - Again, finding the hole in coverage, but Newton forced to Olsen in the endzone.

Fuchess is open but doesn't get seen due to KB/Olsen Vision.....also his drops haven't helped.

Funchess needs more looks and I've said that for awhile.  The team is just wack right now.  He clearly gets open but rarely targeted.

i don't see him burning anyone in those pictures. One he's still working out and the db is on him, cam is already throwing the ball, another that says "burn" he's under the corner/safety but the db is in position to cut and intercept. Most are like that. It's easy to take a still frame of just about anything and make it look good or bad before further review.

Those gifs are enlightening.....I don't think the pre season was a fluke. But when it comes down to it when your the 3rd or 4th on a "RUN first" team this is what happens. It sucks, I wish the coaching staff could see this. He deserves more looks.

Funchess is a damn TE! Go to a damn two TE set with Funch and Olsen. The damn man could be a poor man Jermichael Finley. USE IT RIGHT!

Couldn't agree more.  He's clearly getting open, and he's a hell of a lot faster than his combine 40 time shows.  Hell, Cam ran a 4.59, and Funchess easily beats him in a foot race, every day at practice, and Cam gets a head start.  They're sprinting to, not some half ass jog.  

His YAC is fuging insane for the amount of catches he has.  He's getting damn near triple the YAC  per catch, of any receiver on the team, and almost double that of Olsen.  On 5 catches, he has 40 YAC.  Compare that to Benjamin, who has 21 catches, and 63 YAC.  Averages 8 YAC, compared to Benjamin's 3 YAC.  I love KB, but he goes down on first contact 99% of the time.  His 3 YAC average, is just his big ass falling forward after the catch.  Funchess fights for more, every time the ball is in his hands.

Philly does nothing but make plays.  Hate him all you want, but when he's in the game, and gets targeted, he makes the play.  He could be much more dangerous in the slot, than Ginn ever was.  It's not his straight line speed, but his quick-twitch agility that gets him open.  Misused/under-used guys all over the place...
