What happened to Funchess?

There have been 16 receivers targeted on 3rd down since 2014.

Care to guess who the bottom 3 are in catching the ball?

14. Philly Brown 43.8%

15. Ted Ginn 41.2%

16. Devin Funchess 38.1%

Of those bottom dwellers, Funchess and Ginn have only come up short 1 time for a first down when making the catch. Philly has come up short 3 times when making a catch on 3rd down.

Funchess has been the worst at converting 3rd downs when targeted, but Brown is a close 2nd.

The numbers do not lie.

so we are talking not consistantly catching the ball???? looks looks like you are talking about not converting 3rd downs... Philly catches the ball consistantly.. do you have the stats on that??? 3rd downs I still think I would go with philly because he still ranks about the two starters on the conversions according to what you have posted "numbers do not lie" your words.

FYI: DA only targeted 5 receivers last night (Olsen, KB, Brown, Fozzy, Ginn)  Even Fozzy & Ginn only got a TOTAL 2 targets (1 each).  But DA only threw 28 times - we were at a season low of 54 offensive snaps due to all the turnovers...

In the other weeks we'd targeted 9 receivers.

Olsen & KB had nearly 80% of all targets last night.  In week 1 vs Den they had nearly 67%.  But the other weeks it was more evenly spread out.

For those who want to criticize Funch, I will say it yet again: I don't see how you can be critical of the guy when he is not getting the playing time, or the looks, to be anything other than a peripheral player. Dude had a 100+ yard game last year when he was given the legitimate opportunity to contribute more than a flash play here or there. If you don't see him getting open, I don't know what you're looking at.

On an off note, I've said something similar about Artis-Payne. The offensive play calling in conjunction with the flow of many games has made it difficult to judge Cap too harshly. In fact, he has done fairly well when allowed to get into a rhythm.

Please someone show where Funchess is open on multiple possessions. On those crossing routes he had a DB underneath him.

Every single catch he has made this season he got little to no separation. Even Captain called him out.

Umm there is one if you just go back a page or 2 on this thread.

He toasted all the atlanta defenders when he was out there.  One so bad the db reached out and drug him to the ground when the ball was mid air just drawing the flag just to avoid a TD from happening.  He was wide open this week to with all the db focus on KB and Olsen

Captain calling someone out is like Boston saying he has been playing good earlier this week, id take it with a grain of salt.

That was one play. If you look at those slants and crossing routes everyone is crying about he had a guy underneath him. Funchess is a snail so the DB is baiting the QB.

Against Atlanta he had a drop and in another attempt he got lazy and only put up one hand thinking he was Odell Beckham or something.

He also committed a penalty on that play causing the PI to be offset so...I can't him too much credit on that one.

Haha what are you talking about?! He was pretty wide open all game.  Db underneath him my azz they had 3 around KB and maybe 1 5 yards away from Funch at the closests.

And i dont know where your getting the drop from against Atlanta.  He was targeted 3 times. 1 was the PI, the other 2 came when Anderson entered the game found him on 2 quick passes for 56 yards setting up Andersons TD, after those 2 catches he was pulled out

No he wasn't, people just can't cope with the fact Funchess is not a good receiver. He had the WORST snaps to catch ratio in the NFL. But I guess it's the QBs fault he can't get separation. And he did have a drop he ran a deep slant Cam threw it low, he dropped it.

Its funny how a corner in the NFL specifically called him out, but people on here act like it's the QBs fault. Teams don't even respect him
