What happened to Funchess?

Last week everytime he was in he roasted the db like Julio did our guy.

The 3 times he was targeted.  The db dragged him to the ground before the catch to prevent the long TD and drew the flag.  And when Anderson came in he drove right down for a TD.  2 of the big plays on that drive were 15-20 yard passes to Funch

Because Cam is locked into KB since he came back and DA basically followed suite.

The Panthers do not have a 3rd down WR this season. That is the issue.

Steve Smith was the 3rd down receiver for years, and then it was Cotchery for the past 2 seasons. Now the Panthers best 3rd down WR is Bersin, and they do not even use him.

An offense must have an effective 3rd down WR to compliment the TE or RB to be successful. You could even forego a #1 and #2 WR and rely on your TE as long as you are stocked up with highly consistent 3rd down WRs. That is how the Patriots do it.

Funchess is unguardable on slants. He was as a rookie and still dominates that route this season. We have to be able to see that in film sessions.

This is what's making me crazy about his production.  If he's open on all these plays, and where he's supposed to be, then surely the QBs will have figured it out by now based on film review.  Yet no targets...

I don't know what's going through the players' minds or what plays are actually called (e.g. did Shula call for a pass on 1st and goal or did DA decide to use that option?), so I'm just trying to figure out what's going on here.

He plays like 5% of the offensive snaps.

Actually, not true in some of the earlier games, he had tons of snaps but very few targets.

I'm concerned that we're not spreading the ball around.  Don't seem to be throwing much to Funch or Brown, and not much to Ginn in the past 2 weeks either.  I'll try to post updated receiving targets & receptions tables later today if I can find a bit of time / energy
