Shula is one thing, but Gano should get cut this week.

You all are talking as though Gettleman will actually upgrade a position. Can anyone here tell me the last time that happened? When is the last time Dave Gettleman got rid of a player and brought in someone better?

Nortman to Andy Lee.

Byron Bell to Michael Oher.

Nate Chandler to Mike Remmers.

when he signed Mike Mitchell to be SS

when he signed Ted Ginn to be our PR

when he signed Roman Harper to be a veteran safety

when he signed Mike Remmers over Nate Chandler

when he signed Michael Oher over Byron Bell

when he signed Peanut Tillman to be our number two CB

when he signed Ted Ginn (again!) who went on to have a Pro-Bowl season

when he signed Kurt Coleman to be our FS (Pro-bowl quality season)

when he traded for Jared Allen to start over Kony

So where are Mike Mitchell, Roman Harper, Tillman, Allen... you know, all those guys who helped get the team to the post season?

The point is, this was a Super Bowl team who actually has a worse roster this year than last. That is, unless you concede this is a one and done team who will make a serious playoff run every 5-6 years or so.

Overall I don't have much of an issue with Gano.

Always in the top tier in touchbacks. I love this and feel it is thought of a bad thing now with the ball coming out to the 25. I would rather the opposing team start at the 25 every time then risk a return for a TD.

PAT are automatic. I still can get up and go to the fridge during XP. I have no worries that they will be made. How many teams can truly say that?

He has the power to go long if need be. Is he perfect with accuracy? no, but at least he has the power to give long FG a shot.

Most of all, he actually seems to care about the team.  Did you see San Diego's kicker after the loss to Oakland? laughing it up with Janikowski? Would you rather have that type of typical kicker attitude?  Most Kickers always seem to be on the fringe and not really part of the team. Gano is always in the mix and seems to have a good relationship with all position groups.

I am happy Geno is our kicker, and I would not want to bring in anyone else at this point.

just because they aren't here anymore doesn't mean Gettleman has NEVER upgraded like you suggested but I'll play ball

Mitchell got a HUGE contract that there was no way we were going to be able to afford, particularly when we were still in cap hell

Roman was in the twilight of his career when he came here and by the end he had become a liability and it was time to move on

Tillman had a brutal injury last year and I'm assuming the Panthers figured he had nothing left in the tank

Allen retired- his decision not Gman's

I don't disagree that we are a worse team than last year, but you said when has Gettleman ever upgraded a position. That simply is not a true statement, his tenure here has been full of finding diamonds in the rough.

The kicker position in the NFL is bananas. Teams change kickers like Gettleman changes his nipple shorts. The likelihood of just making the situation worse is crazy high. That's because Adam Vinahoweverthehellyouspellhisname is the only kicker I can think of who has been consistently reliable for years.

When you can't rely on your kicker to make FG's within reasonable distance for his range, its time to move on.  This whole season could be looked at from a different angle if we had secured that win in Denver, and thats when the decline started.  (yes I know we blew out SF after)...but looking at 2-3 right now vs. 1-4 looks great....sadly.

He's missed what now, 3 FGs within his range this year in just 5 games? Terrible.  Granted he missed 7 last year but those were over-looked by the explosive offense that masked his shanks.  We don't currently have that Offense, and with FGs making the difference between a W and a L....its time to upgrade the position.

Looks as though the mine is drying up...

.....again that still is avoiding the original point you made of "name me a time when Gettleman upgraded a position"

He had a bad offseason- worst one of his Panthers tenure, I'm not arguing that. But if were going to judge him, we have to look at his body of work- which is pretty damn good outside of a few poor decisions.

Spoiler: that's as good as you're going to get, even the pats make mistakes.
