Question regarding coaches intellect

If you're watching the GB-Giants game, GB throws a pass while NY is trying to get the ball back. Starks was bobbling the ball the whole time, they ruled it a fumble and recovery. NY uses it's last time out to stop the clock. Why not challenge the play- make them look at the tape and see that it was never a complete pass. If you're right, incomplete pass, 3rd and 15, still have a time out. If you're wrong, 3rd and 10 and no time out, which was the outcome anyway.

GB got a 1st down on the next play, so it was irrelevant, but still....

Also depends on when it occurs in the game, no point saving up challenges just before the 2 minute warning. Otherwise it's not wise to waste challenge flags on calls you're not likely to get overturned.

The timeout that you criticized them for using.

He's criticizing them for using the TO without challenging instead of challenging and taking whatever outcome follows. The worsg t case is that they end up exactly where they are, but there was potential upside if it was overturned.

I understand that, but he asked what there was to lose though and they could have lost the timeout that they used.

I'm still mindfuged over Rivera calling a timeout and then deciding to challenge though. Cannot believe I saw an NFL CotY winner do that.

They would have lost the time out either way. But if the call had been overturned, they would have kept the time out.

Yeah, McAdoo was not thinking at all in that situation. You basically kill two birds with one stone. You get an even longer rest from the review, and also a possible outcome where the play is overturned and you KEEP your timeout. Instead, he merely just wastes a timeout.

I have another game regarding a coaches intellect. In the Ravens/Redskins game, TWest was gashing them for like 60 yds in the 1st quarter alone (averaging like 9 YPC). Then (in 30 MPH winds mind you), they go on to pass it like 40 times after that 1st quarter and go on to lose the game. I really don't understand coaches in today's NFL. They make sh*t so complicated for no reason. Him only getting 11 carries yesterday was flat out ignorance.
